🎈 A Small Change Can Make a Big Difference 🌎
For the 2026–2027 school year, we are asking all AMDSB schools to join us in eliminating balloons for decorative purposes.
While balloons may seem harmless, they create long-lasting environmental impacts:
• Balloon latex and plastic components break down into microplastics that can contaminate our soil and waterways.
• Balloons can take hundreds of years to fully decompose in landfills.
• Escaped balloons often become litter that can harm wildlife and ecosystems.
The good news? There are many creative and sustainable alternatives:
🌿 Paper decorations and banners
🌿 Reusable signs and displays
🌿 Potted plants or flowers
🌿 Student-created artwork and murals
By choosing reusable and environmentally friendly decorations, we can celebrate school events while reducing waste and protecting the environment.
