The Liberals will always put profit over people and our planet. They don’t tackle our climate crisis with courage and conviction. Pipelines is making that crisis worse.

Our very own MPP, Joseph Racinsky, works with the Ministry of Red Tape Reduction. But “our environmental laws are not red tape, they are a safety net.” We need to protect our land and people. Red tape reduction is about prioritizing wealthy corporations over everyday people. Whether it is Carney’s Liberal government or Ford’s PC one, we are seeing severe rollbacks on climate action. We need to act now so that our children have a future.

Many people across our riding share our values of wanting to put people and the planet before amassing wealth. We have the shared understanding that the science on climate is telling us we need to act quickly and decisively to stop global warming, to protect all of the species in our delicate ecosystems, and to protect our land, water, and air so that we build a sustainable future for our children.

However, are we silent about our values on climate because we want to keep the peace in a world that is divided and divisive? Or are we silenced, keeping our heads down so as not to be targeted? Have we as a community fallen into climate silence? How can we change that?

If transformation needs to happen for our communities to take the steps necessary to stay healthy, now and into the future, conversations need to happen. We need to reach across the divide with our message, we need to keep doing the work of tending to the places we love to make the change we want to see. We need to build understanding and shared purpose, we need to bring people on board to tackle the challenges we face.

The internet is a very divisive space. Are our communities as divisive as that? How can you build bridges with your friends, family, colleagues, neighbours? Can you suspend your assumptions of them? Can you listen actively? Can you find a way to work together to protect our people and our land? What is important about the spaces you love? How can you get your community onboard with protecting the spaces we all love?

Is there hope for our future?

The Halton Hills Seniors for Climate have invited Dale Hamilton to present her One Woman Show, “The Gardener and the Golfer” to explore these questions. Please join their offering tomorrow in Georgetown.

Spoiler alert: there is hope. And it starts with us. It starts with us having many conversations across the divide.

Decisions made at the municipal level are being overridden by Ford and his PC government in Ontario. We know locally what land is important to protect. How do we protect the places we love and the places of ecological and agricultural significance in our communities, when our provincial government is overriding local decision making? Municipal leaders are having their power taken away, while still shouldering the same level of responsibility to serve their local community. When will Ford and his enabler, Joseph Racinsky, stop their vicious attack on democracy in Ontario?

Help Protect Puslinch is hosting a community meeting at the Puslinch Community Centre on Wednesday, June 3rd at 7:00pm.

•Learn more about the proposed MZO and its potential impact

•Hear from community leaders and special guests:
