At approximately 01:54 a.m. on Saturday June 5, 2021, Chapple South, Chapple North & Emo Fire responded to a structure fire event at the West Fraser OSB Mill in Barwick as per response protocols - automatic third alarm incident. La Vallee station was requested shortly after on a fourth alarm.

The incident was upgraded to a fifth alarm in order to get additional personnel from Alberton Station. Morley Fire also provided additional personnel support. Morley and Fort Frances Fire provided emergency coverage as per the mutual aid plan.

A transitional fire attack operation was initiated upon arrival at the scene and the incident took several hours to bring the fire under control. The incident was terminated at 1130 a.m. the same day. The general public was not at immediate risk during this incident, however we did have the Rainy River District Paramedic Service on location for the safety of our first responders.

Thank you to our mutual aid partners for providing stand-by coverage, as well as the Rainy River Association of Professional Paramedics, and the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal

Have you ever wondered why so many firefighters respond to an incident?

: In order to ensure the safety of both the public and first responders, we use the following guidelines:
