Today, we recognize Red Dress Day—a National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People.
Red dresses displayed in public spaces serve as powerful reminders of those who are missing and whose lives were taken too soon. They also call attention to the ongoing impacts of violence faced by Indigenous communities across Canada.
At FFPLTC, we are committed to being a place of learning, reflection, and respect. We invite our community to take time today and every day to learn, listen, and honour the voices and stories of Indigenous peoples.
The image below features a powerful installation created in 2023 by former Cultural Heritage Knowledge Series Coordinator, Jennifer Thorpe. The installation was inspired by The REDress Project created by Métis artist Jaime Black. The image continues to encourage reflection and foster a deeper understanding within our community.
