Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo Volunteers are asked to commit for at least one year so these partnerships can create life‑changing experiences for both mentor and mentee.

Igniting the power of young people in Wood Buffalo through mentorship. 💙 Non-profit offering free programs for ages 6-18, including One-on-One, Corporate Mentoring, Crafty Kids, Full Circle, Game On, Go Girls, Ignite, PRISM and Teen Mentoring. Our Bigs and Littles mentoring program pairs youth of all genders with caring Bigs who provide guidance, friendship, and a safe space to share the ups and downs of growing up; through regular outings and weekly time together (about two hours), Bigs and Littles build meaningful relationships grounded in trust, shared interests, and mutual respect, supported throughout by our dedicated caseworkers, and engage in activities like biking, playing sports, crafting, watching movies, or simply enjoying each other’s company. In addition to our One-on-One Mentoring, we offer several free group programs, including Corporate Mentoring, Crafty Kids, Full Circle Mentoring, Game On, Go Girls, Ignite, PRISM and Teen Mentoring.

Did you know that ALL of our programs are completely FREE?

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, build confidence, and experience the power of mentorship, regardless of their family's financial situation.

From one-on-one mentoring to group programs, we work to make sure cost is never a barrier for local youth to get involved! 💙

Because every kid deserves a chance to reach their full potential.

Mentorship Monday Spotlight: Crafty Kids, where creativity and connection go hand in hand!

Through fun, hands-on activities, our Littles have opportunities to express themselves, explore their emotions, build confidence, and learn more about themselves in a welcoming environment.

From getting creative with stickers to discovering new ways to share their feelings, every activity is an opportunity to learn, grow, and connect.

Because mentorship is about more than spending time together. It’s about creating opportunities for kids to discover who they are and who they can become. 💛

A little hands-on learning can go a long way! 🔧⚙️

Through our partnership with Cenovus, we had the opportunity to bring local secondary students to Keyano to explore STEM education and career pathways right here in Wood Buffalo.

Students toured both the Suncor Energy Industrial Campus and Clearwater Campus, getting an inside look at the programs and training opportunities available in our community. From trying haul truck, dozer, and excavator simulators to working together in the engineering lab to release “clean steam,” the day was all about learning by doing!

And the students had plenty to say about their experience:

💬 “My experience here was fabulous and very inspiring. It showed how trades is a common and easy to get job that is well paid and in demand.”

💬 “I felt inspired about all the trucks and trades, and for the youth I support them to at least try it out once.”

💬 “I loved the simulators. And the instructors we had were also kind.”

One participant summed it up perfectly: “Big On STEM is a very worthwhile and positive learning experience.”

Experiences like these help connect what students learn in the classroom to real-world opportunities. Many were surprised to learn that pursuing a career in the trades may not require as many years of education as they originally thought, opening their eyes to the possibilities available right here at home.

A big thank you to Cenovus for partnering with us to create these opportunities, and to the team at Keyano College for welcoming us and sharing their knowledge.

Today is all about discovery, innovation, and opportunity!

We're proud to be partnering with Westwood High School Fort McMurray and Keyano for an amazing Big on STEM event that encourages students to explore the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Living in a region built on innovation and driven by skilled professionals, STEM education opens doors to countless opportunities. Whether students think of working in technology, healthcare, engineering, environmental sciences, trades, or entrepreneurship, STEM helps provide the foundation to get there.

We're also excited to showcase the programs and opportunities available right here in our community. Our local schools and post-secondary institutions are helping prepare the next generation for meaningful futures, and we want more young people to see what's possible close to home.

A special thank you to Cenovus for funding this event and for their continued commitment to supporting youth, education, and community growth. We're grateful for their partnership and excited to work together to inspire future leaders.

Mentorship Monday Spotlight: Corporate Mentoring

Launched in 2017 with ConocoPhillips, our Corporate Mentoring Program connects Grade 7–9 students at Father R. Perin School in Janvier with real-world career experiences.

Through a mix of classroom learning and hands-on site visits, students explore career pathways, build leadership and workplace skills, learn about wellness and resilience, and connect directly with industry professionals.

These experiences help students build confidence, discover new possibilities and see what their future could look like beyond the classroom.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo! 🍂

Today, we’re taking a moment to be grateful for the incredible community that continues to show up for local kids and youth.

We’re thankful for our mentors who give their time and energy, our families who trust us to be part of their children’s journeys, our volunteers and supporters who help make our work possible, and the community partners who continue to believe in the power of mentorship.

Most of all, we’re grateful for the young people at the heart of everything we do.

Wishing you and your loved ones a Thanksgiving filled with good food, good company and plenty to be thankful for.

Did you know our community fundraisers do more than raise funds? They bring people together for a common purpose: helping local kids and youth have access to mentorship.

Come make a difference with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo!

We’re looking for Program Coordinators to join our team and help create meaningful mentoring experiences for children and youth in our community.

In this role, you’ll coordinate mentoring programs, build relationships with volunteers, schools and community agencies, and help ensure our programs are welcoming, inclusive and impactful.

We’re looking for someone with experience in the social work sector, a strong understanding of working with youth, excellent communication skills, and a genuine commitment to supporting young people and families.

If you’re passionate about community, connection and making a lasting difference, we’d love to hear from you!
