Last Friday, May 15, RCMP officers in Fort McMurray joined the community to organize a successful food drive in support of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank at the Real Canadian Superstore in downtown.

During the four-hour drive, residents generously donated non-perishable food items and other essential supplies, raising approximately $525 in cash and gift cards, along with 931 pounds of food.

The event brought together officers and community members with a common goal: to support local families experiencing food insecurity, especially during the long weekend in May.

Initiatives like this demonstrate the power of community collaboration and the significant impact of coming together to support those in need.

Building More Than Projects — Building Community

E-Construction led a remarkable large-scale food drive this past weekend in support of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank, collecting donations across multiple grocery stores throughout Fort McMurray.

Through the incredible efforts of their team, the campaign raised 18,456 lbs of food along with approximately $9,834 in cash and gift cards, for a combined total value of $77,013.84.

This support will have a direct impact on families in our region throughout the summer months. Quite simply, we could not help feed as many individuals and families without the generosity, dedication, and leadership shown by E-Construction and their team.

Their staff truly went above and beyond — volunteering their time, encouraging community participation, and demonstrating what it means to give back locally in a meaningful way.

We are happy to announce that this week the Wood Buffalo Food Bank officially relaunched the Basic Shelf Program with a fresh set of new and exciting ideas, a new program coordinator and a promise of enjoyment for all involved. The program offers a variety of workshops designed to help individuals and families develop practical skills that support long term food security. The program includes workshops focused on budget friendly meals, utilizing whats in your refrigerator, how to make a 2-3 ingredient healthy meals, grocery budgeting and smart shopping.

Participants gain valuable hands-on experience in area such as safe food handling, meal planning and preparing. The program also offers a dedicated course for teens to help build confidence and independence in the kitchen, along with specialty classes tailored to the interests and needs of the participants and the community for a more personalized learning experience.

All are welcome to participate.
