Some great words here in Wah-pii-moostoosis Gym at our Star Blanket Cree Nation Annual Orange Shirt Day Commemoration by Tribal Chief Jeremy Fourhorns and former QIRS survivor. He shared reminders with us all that everything we do, we do in Treaty, and that the IRS systems were failed attempts to walk in Treaty with our people. He shared stories of his time here at the QIRS and commended our Star Blanket Nation for the tough work we have to do in researching and investigating our site.

Some photos from the Smudge Walk today at the former QIRS site. Chief did an excellent job sharing information about the site as we all walked along, pointing out sites of interest. The Walk began at the gym, circled the former Track, down to the beach front, up to the tracks, across the highway to the residential area, and back around to the main entrance. Thank you to all those who attended and to the smudge men for leading us.

Upon our return to Montreal to complete the digitization of the Lebret files held by the Grey Nuns, we made a good friend and ally. Francois has been helping and guiding our Research team since we first made contact with him last year. He carries a plethora of knowledge about the Grey Nuns, and the inner workings of the Archdiocese archives across Canada, and archives in general. We explained our cultural practice of gift giving, and so to honour him and show our appreciation for his help, knowledge and friendship, our Coordinator Gerard presented him with a metal Every Child Matters feather, designed by Jonas Thomson from the Carry The Kettle First Nation, and engineered by the Pasqua First Nation's business Pro-Metal.
