🧡 Every Child Matters | Orange Shirt Day 2026

Today, community members, families, Elders, youth and visitors gathered for Star Blanket Cree Nation’s Annual Orange Shirt Day Commemoration in Lebret.

A total of 183 people took part in the Smudge Walk, coming together in remembrance, reflection and solidarity to honour residential school Survivors and the children who never returned home.

Throughout the day, participants gathered for prayer, a meal, sharing, activities for children and youth, and moments of connection and reflection. Four residential school Survivors also shared some of their personal experiences, helping remind us of the importance of listening to and honouring Survivor voices.

Thank you to Star Blanket Cree Nation, White Raven Healing Centre, Kihew Kawaaskasit-SBCN Health Services, FHQ Health Services, and everyone who helped organize and participate in today’s gathering.

We hope this album captures the strong sense of community and togetherness felt throughout the day.

🧡 Every Child Matters.
🧡 We honour the Survivors.
🧡 We remember the children who never returned home.

Today, we honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We remember the children who never returned home, honour residential school Survivors, and recognize the families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of the residential school system.

September 30 is also Orange Shirt Day. It’s a day to reflect, learn and reaffirm that Every Child Matters.

As we mark this day, we honour the strength and resilience of Survivors, their families and communities, and the ongoing journey toward truth, healing and reconciliation.

🧡 Every Child Matters 🧡
