Last night the Fredericton Community Foundation hosted the annual Philanthropy in Action dinner to honour the extraordinary individuals in our city who embody the true spirit of generosity.

The Philanthropy in Action Awards began in 2010 and this year honoured Lois Walker Griffin. Lois’ lifelong spirit of generosity has helped shape Fredericton in countless ways as she has supported numerous causes from healthcare, to education, athletics and the arts.

Thank you to the community foundation organizing committee, sponsors and volunteers who made the wonderful evening possible. 🌟🌟

Hier soir, la Fondation communautaire de Fredericton a organisé le dîner annuel « Philanthropy in Action » afin de rendre hommage aux personnalités exceptionnelles de notre ville qui incarnent le véritable esprit de générosité.

Les prix « Philanthropy in Action » ont été créés en 2010 et ont récompensé cette année Lois Walker Griffin. La générosité dont Lois a fait preuve tout au long de sa vie a contribué à façonner Fredericton de multiples façons, puisqu’elle a soutenu de nombreuses causes, allant des soins de santé à l’éducation, en passant par le sport et les arts.

Merci au comité d’organisation de la fondation communautaire, aux sponsors et aux bénévoles qui ont rendu possible cette merveilleuse soirée. 🌟🌟

The annual Community Advisory Board (CAB) Summit hosted by the Human Development Council is taking place in Fredericton this week. The CAB brings together subject matter experts from across the province working in the homeless-serving sector to review data, receive training and strengthen collaboration.

The data shared indicates that chronic homelessness in Fredericton has decreased slightly in recent months. Progress takes time but, through working together, meaningful change that addresses root causes is possible. The City of Fredericton is committed to being a partner in this work through the Community Safety Task Force’s 47 actionable recommendations calling for housing, health care supports, security enhancements and neighbourhood engagement.

Le sommet annuel du Conseil consultatif communautaire (CAB), organisé par le Conseil pour le développement humain, se tient cette semaine à Fredericton. Le CAB rassemble des experts de toute la province travaillant dans le secteur de l’aide aux sans-abri afin d’examiner des données, de suivre des formations et de renforcer la collaboration.

Les données partagées indiquent que l'itinérance chronique à Fredericton a légèrement diminué ces derniers mois. Les progrès prennent du temps, mais en travaillant ensemble, il est possible d'apporter des changements significatifs qui s'attaquent aux causes profondes du problème. La ville de Fredericton s'engage à être un partenaire dans ce travail à travers les 47 recommandations concrètes du Groupe de travail sur la sécurité communautaire, qui préconisent des mesures en matière de logement, de soutien en matière de soins de santé, de renforcement de la sécurité et d'engagement des quartiers.

During yesterday’s Council meeting, the Fredericton Playhouse shared an update on the ongoing construction of the new Ron and Erma Hawkes Centre for the Arts and presented Council with an engraved shovel from the 2024 construction commencement ceremony.

Project costs have remained stable over the past year and a half since the final design approval and the budget is expected to stay on track as we approach the anticipated opening in summer 2027. Thanks to everyone who has helped make this exciting project possible! 🌟🌟

Lors de la séance du Conseil d’hier, le Fredericton Playhouse a fait le point sur l’avancement des travaux de construction du nouveau Centre des arts Ron et Erma Hawkes et a remis au Conseil une pelle gravée provenant de la cérémonie de lancement des travaux de 2024.

Les coûts du projet sont restés stables au cours de la dernière année et demie, depuis l’approbation finale des plans, et le budget devrait rester dans les limites prévues à l’approche de l’ouverture prévue à l’été 2027. Merci à tous ceux qui ont contribué à rendre ce projet passionnant possible ! 🌟🌟

The final meeting for the current City Council takes place tonight at 7:30 pm. The sitting Mayor and Council have served a term together from 2021-26. As part of this last meeting, members will have the opportunity to reflect on their years of service to our city. Everyone is welcome to attend in person, watch online or watch later at anytime. 🌟🌟

La dernière réunion du conseil municipal actuel aura lieu ce soir à 19 h 30. Le maire et les conseillers municipaux en fonction ont exercé leur mandat ensemble de 2021 à 2026. À l'occasion de cette dernière réunion, les membres auront l'occasion de revenir sur leurs années au service de notre ville. Tout le monde est invité à y assister en personne, à la suivre en ligne ou à la regarder en différé à tout moment. 🌟🌟

Today I had the pleasure of participating in Downtown Fredericton’s annual general meeting. For decades DFI has been a valued and critical partner to the City of Fredericton.

Je suis heureux de continuer à exercer mes fonctions de mairesse jusqu'à la cérémonie d'assermentation, le 1er juin.

Les résidents de Fredericton ont élu un nouveau maire et un nouveau conseil municipal à la suite de l’élection municipale du 11 mai.

Le nouveau conseil municipal comprend Steve Hicks, ancien conseiller municipal, élu maire, huit nouveaux conseillers et quatre conseillers réélus, qui exerceront leur mandat jusqu’en mai 2030.

Le maire et le conseil actuels demeureront en fonction jusqu’à la cérémonie d’assermentation à l’hôtel de ville le 1er juin. La dernière réunion ordinaire du conseil actuel aura lieu le 19 mai 2026.

À la suite de la cérémonie d’assermentation du 8 juin, le maire suppléant ainsi que les nominations aux comités seront annoncés.

Happy to continue serving as Mayor until the swearing in on June 1st.

Fredericton residents have elected a new mayor and council following the May 11 municipal election.

The incoming City Council includes Steve Hicks, former City Councillor, as Mayor-elect, eight new councillors and four returning councillors, who will serve until May 2030.

The current Mayor and Council will remain in office until the swearing-in ceremony at City Hall on June 1. The final regular meeting of the current council will be held on May 19, 2026.

Following the swearing in ceremony on June 1, the deputy mayor and committee appointments will be announced on June 8.

Good luck to all those participating in the 48th Annual Stewart McKelvey Fredericton Marathon this weekend! 🙌

With seven different races over the course of the weekend there is something for everyone to enjoy. A special thanks to all the organizers who bring this event and all its participants together in our city each year.

I hope everybody has a great race and lots of fun along the way 👟👟
