You still have one week to submit a nomination for the 3rd Annual Autism Connections Merit Award!

The award recognizes autistic individuals across New Brunswick for their achievements, personal growth, effort and determination. Those achievements might be connected to academics, arts, athletics, employment, business or community involvement, or they may be personal milestones such as increased independence, stronger communication skills, building friendships or growing in confidence.

Nominees must:
• be diagnosed with autism and live in New Brunswick
• be at least 16 years old
• have demonstrated exceptional and/or consistent achievements
• have specific achievements that can be clearly documented in the nomination

The recipient will receive a $500 prize.

Nominations must be received by October 31st to be considered for the next Autism Connections Merit Award.

If you know someone whose achievements deserve to be recognized, now is a great time to submit their nomination!

First Tee Fall 2026 is officially underway!

We kicked off our first session on Monday, October 19th, and we're excited to be back for another season of learning, building skills and having fun together on the green!

A huge thank you to Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities for making this year's program possible!

Thanks to their generous funding, we've been able to bring on THREE experienced, trained facilitators and move to a new location at Sunset Acres Elementary School!

This support helps us provide a welcoming, structured environment where participants can explore golf, develop new skills and enjoy being active at their own pace.

We’re hiring a Behaviour Support Specialist to join the Autism Connections team in Fredericton!

We’re looking for an experienced professional to provide behaviour analytic services and support autistic children, youth, and adults as part of our clinical team.

Applicants must have:
• Eligible for, or current BCBA certification, or equivalent
• Master's degree in a related field or ABA
• A minimum of two years of experience providing behaviour analytic services to children, youth, and young adults with autism, developmental disabilities, dual diagnoses, or other exceptionalities
• A clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
• A valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
• Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire
• English proficiency; bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset

Experience supervising and mentoring clinical staff is preferred.

Living outside a larger centre can add another layer to accessing a service, appointment, program or community activity.

For someone travelling into Fredericton or another larger community, the practical questions may start well before they reach the door. How far is the trip? Does the appointment time make that trip realistic? Is phone contact the only way to get started? Can paperwork be completed before travelling? Are the cost and time commitment clear? Is any part of the service available remotely? Is the information someone needs available in the language they use?

The answers will be different depending on the service. Some things need to happen in person. Remote options are not possible everywhere, reliable internet cannot be assumed, and organizations have different capacities and limitations.

That is why geography is worth including when we talk about accessibility.

Sometimes the barrier is not what happens once someone arrives. It is what it takes to get there in the first place.

Healthcare can be stressful for anyone, but for many autistic people, the barriers can go beyond the appointment itself.

It might be the bright lights, the waiting room, being touched without enough warning, trying to explain symptoms clearly, needing extra processing time, or feeling dismissed when communication looks different than expected. Small changes can make medical appointments feel a lot more accessible. Clear explanations, written instructions, patience, sensory consideration, and listening to what someone says they need can all make a real difference.

Good healthcare is not just about treating the concern someone came in with. It is also about making sure people can access care in a way that feels safe, respectful, and understandable.
