There’s lots happening on city streets this October. With fall weather bringing variable conditions, check back each week for the latest construction updates.

❌ Acorn Street will be closed to through traffic in front of 35 Acorn Street from Monday, October 12 to Friday, October 30. A detour will be in place for traffic accessing Durelle Street via temporary roads.

❌ Prospect Street will see two southbound lanes closed from October 13 to 15 to allow for storm sewer repairs near the Chevrolet and Fox Subaru dealerships, reducing traffic to two lanes through the work area.

❌ King Street, between Carleton and Regent streets, will be fully closed on Wednesday, October 14, with access to Barker House Lane maintained via Regent Street and access to the parking lot east of the NB Power Building available from Carleton Street.

✅ The Valley Trail is now open following work to replace aging infrastructure and upgrade drainage systems to better withstand storms.

🚧 Westmorland Street work is ongoing with concrete, curbing and sidewalk work continuing next week, including work in front of ICS on October 13. The pedestrian detour will switch to the TD Tower side on October 13, and fencing will begin coming down next week. There will continue to be intermittent impacts from curbing and sidewalk work while traffic patterns remain the same. All businesses remain open.

🚧 Paving on the northbound lane of Riverside Drive is now expected to begin next week following weather-related delays, with traffic control measures changing as work progresses.

🚧 St. Mary’s Street work is continuing with paving planned over the next two weeks and driveway repairs continuing. Businesses in the area remain open and accessible throughout construction.

🚧 The Springhill Road rebuild is ongoing, with manhole installation underway this week and paving coming up.

🚧 Dobie and Gill streets continue to see sewer main replacement and adjacent infrastructure work, with water and piping work underway and the project completion projected by the end of October.

🚧 Paving at Burpee Street is planned for next week.

🚧 Sidewalk work at the Clark Street Outfall is expected to be completed by the end of this week, with the project wrapping up over the next week.

🔧 A road rebuild on River Street will begin Wednesday, October 14, with intermittent closures and the road reduced to one lane during construction while flaggers direct traffic, with work expected to continue through the end of October.

🧱 Ongoing projects include Neville Street Park, Killarney Lake Park lakeside parking lot, Killarney Brook Bridge, Killarney Lake Park and the Garrison Play Area.

Renovations to update Fredericton’s popular weekend market recently wrapped up!

The renovation project focused on improving accessibility, enhancing energy efficiency and renewing critical infrastructure to support improved market operations, while preserving the Fredericton Boyce Farmers' Market’s historic charm.

✅ Accessibility improvements included upgrades to all main entrances, the installation of automatic door operators, making washrooms fully accessible, the removal of the raised stage, and updated furnishings in the accessible seating area.
✅ Energy efficiency enhancements included the replacement of existing lighting with LED fixtures and the installation of a solar array to help reduce utility costs.
✅ Infrastructure and operational improvements included the replacement of a portion of the roof, renewal of washroom infrastructure, and the addition of new storage space.

Last week, more than 100 residents joined us in Island View Park to help reimagine the future of their neighbourhood park. 🛝✨

To meet the needs of our growing community and continue delivering high-quality services, Fredericton City Council has approved, in principle, the 2027 water and sewer budget and adopted a long-term financial plan for the municipal utility.

The budget includes a five per cent rate increase to help renew aging infrastructure and support Fredericton's continued growth.

With the proposed increase, the average household would pay about $2.97 per day for clean drinking water and responsible wastewater treatment.

Investing today helps prevent boil orders and water main breaks while continuing to provide clean and safe drinking water. The proposed adjustment addresses aging infrastructure, rising costs, and population growth to ensure Fredericton’s water system remains secure, efficient, and environmentally responsible for years to come.

Even with these investments, Fredericton continues to offer some of the most affordable water rates in New Brunswick, renewing old pipes, planning ahead, and maintaining reliable services for a thriving community.

City Council will hold a final vote on the 2027 water and sewer budget in November as part of the City’s annual budget process and final adoption.
