Here’s your first construction update for September! School is starting next week, and some major projects are wrapping up, so read below for important information that may impact your commute:

🚗With final work being completed this week, Crocket Street will be opening on the morning of Tuesday, September 8. Drivers are advised to please refrain from using Wyngate Drive as a detour for the Cliffe Street/Brown Boulevard roundabout to avoid congestion around the school. Please continue to use Cliffe Street / Murray Avenue / Canada street as a detour route for through traffic.

🛠️The Cliffe Street/Brown Boulevard roundabout is entering the final stages of work next week, with final paving underway and signage and lighting being installed. The roundabout is expected to open to through traffic on the week of September 14.

✅Golf Club Road and Duncan Lane are open! Crews will be on site to finish up some reinstatement work next week, so keep an eye out for flaggers as some of this work will reduce the road to one lane.

🪏Liverpool Street storm sewer work will be completed this week. Curb and asphalt reinstatement on the roadway and parking lot areas will be completed next week outside of school hours.

🚧On Saturday, September 5, Summer Soulsa will be holding a parade beginning at 6:20pm on Carleton Street near the Fredericton Public Library. There will be a rolling street closure as the parade proceeds through King Street, York Street, Queen Street, and back to Carleton.

🚧 Westmorland Street reminder: All access to and from the Westmorland Street Bridge via Queen Street remains closed. Vehicles are required to use the Smythe/Regent ramps to enter and exit the bridge. Through traffic remains open on Queen Street, and businesses remain open in the area. View the detour here: www.fredericton.ca/westmorlandstreet.

Paving work next week:
- In collaboration with NB DTI, the ramps to and from College Hill Road will be milled and paved next week. The ramps will remain open throughout this work and flaggers will be on site to direct traffic.

- Sami Street

The City of Fredericton is beginning the process to include amalgamated areas into the City’s Municipal Plan and Zoning By-Law to create a coordinated approach to land use planning across Fredericton.

As part of this process the City will be hosting open houses to gather feedback from residents to help ensure that land is developed, and conserved in ways that support safe, sustainable, and well-planned communities. This engagement will help shape how these areas are integrated into the City’s Municipal Plan and Zoning By-law, with a focus on land-use planning and development, not property taxes or municipal service levels.

Attend one of the upcoming open houses to learn more about this work and help shape the future of these neighbourhoods:

- Friday, September 18 from 1:00pm – 2:30pm (French)

Every year, the City provides financial support to community groups, non-profits, and organizations that help make Fredericton more connected, creative, and inclusive through programs, services, and events that benefit residents and visitors alike.

This year, funding is available through four grant categories:
- Community Funding Grants
- Strategic Partner Capital Grants
- Climate Change Action Grants
- Arts, Heritage & Culture Grants

Starting September 1, 2026, recycling collection in the Carlisle Road, Pepper Creek and Killarney Road areas within the City of Fredericton will move to bi-weekly collection.

Recycling collection is now managed by Circular Materials, a provincial system, rather than locally by the City of Fredericton.

A new recycling calendar is now available for September 2026 through December 2027 to help residents keep track of their updated collection schedule.

It’s the last Friday of August, so here’s your final construction update for the month. There’s still lots of work happening across the city as we head into the fall construction season. ☀️

❌ Liverpool Street will be fully closed between Norfolk Drive and Canterbury Drive from Tuesday, September 1 to Friday, September 4 for storm sewer realignment. Access will be maintained for residents.

❌ King Street, between Carleton and Regent streets, will be fully closed on Monday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 1. On Wednesday, September 2, the eastbound lane will be closed, with flaggers on site to maintain traffic flow. Access to Barker House Lane will remain available via Regent Street, while access to the parking lot east of the NB Power Building will be available from Carleton Street.

❌ On Monday, August 31 from 9:00am to 3:00pm there will be a southbound lane reduction in front of 224 York Street, with flaggers on site to help maintain traffic flow.

🚦 Riverside Drive Phase 4 is expanding into the McMinniman Court area. A temporary road will be constructed, with access maintained for residents.

🚧 Reminder: St. Mary’s Street is now closed through the intersection at Maple Street. The Westmorland Street Bridge cannot be accessed via this route. Transit is affected. This closure will remain in place until mid-October. View the detour here: www.fredericton.ca/stmarysstreet.

The City of Fredericton uses special traffic cameras to collect information on how many vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists use our streets and how they move through intersections.

Our engineers use this data to inform decisions about traffic signals, traffic calming, and other transportation improvements, building safer streets for everyone. 🚗🚲🚶

✅ Lincoln Road opened this week! The project included the replacement of water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer mains. Residents can now enjoy a newly paved street with a sidewalk extension.

❌ St. Mary’s Street closure will expand into the intersection at Maple Street. Transit stops will be affected. This closure will remain in place until mid-October. View the detour here: www.fredericton.ca/stmarysstreet
