Rope Rescue in Action

Earlier this week, Fredericton firefighters responded to an injured person at the bottom of a steep embankment near the water.

Due to the difficult terrain, crews established a technical rope-rescue system and used a basket stretcher to safely raise the patient to level ground.

Engine 4, Rescue 1, Truck 2, Engine 1, the Platoon Captain, Ambulance New Brunswick, and a City of Fredericton Water and Sewer employee assisted with the operation.

The patient was safely removed and transported to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in stable condition.

Incidents like this demonstrate why specialized equipment, ongoing training, and teamwork between responding agencies are so important.

🚒We’re bringing back an annual tradition!🚒

After taking a break during the COVID years, the Fredericton Firefighters Association is excited to bring back our annual Ladder Sit for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

Join us at the South Side Canadian Tire parking lot on October 10, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. One member will spend all 12 hours in the ladder basket while other members collect donations on the ground.

Donations can be made by cash or tap. Bring the kids to see the trucks, meet our firefighters and support a great cause. Every donation helps Muscular Dystrophy Canada continue its important work.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Fredericton Firefighters Association stands with everyone facing cancer, along with their families and loved ones. We recognize how difficult this journey can be and send our support to all those affected.

This Sunday, our members will be on site providing medical coverage for the annual CIBC Run for the Cure. We’re proud to support this event and the important work it does to raise awareness and support people affected by breast cancer.

Friday morning, Fredericton firefighters responded to Valleyview Street following a report of smoke coming from an exterior light fixture.

Upon arrival, the Truck 1 crew entered the residence and encountered smoke and fire conditions. During their search, firefighters located an individual inside the home and removed them from the structure.

Crews from Engine 3, alongside Ambulance New Brunswick, immediately began providing emergency medical care. Tragically, despite the efforts of first responders, the individual did not survive.

Fredericton Fire Prevention personnel attended the scene, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

The Fredericton Firefighters Association extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the individual. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic loss.

The International Association of Fire Fighters, Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial in Colorado Springs, Colorado, stands as a lasting tribute to firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The Memorial Wall bears the names of IAFF members from across Canada and the United States who lost their lives as a result of their service—including those who died from occupational illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and other job-related conditions. Each year, families, friends and fellow firefighters gather at the memorial to honour newly added members and ensure their service and sacrifice are never forgotten.

This year, the names of 193 IAFF members who died in 2025, along with 95 legacy members, were officially added to the wall. Each name represents a life of courage and dedication—and a family, fire department and community forever changed by their loss.

The Fredericton Firefighters Association joins our brothers and sisters throughout the IAFF in remembering these fallen members. Their names now have a permanent place of honour in Colorado Springs, and their legacies will live on through all those who continue to answer the call.

May they never be forgotten. 🕯️

Last week, members of the Fredericton Firefighters Association were honoured to attend the 9/11 and Canadian Fallen Firefighters Memorial ceremony hosted by the Moncton Firefighters Association.

It was an opportunity to stand alongside our brothers and sisters from across the region to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

On behalf of the Jenkins family and the Fredericton Firefighters Association, a helmet was laid in honour of our brother, Captain Kenny Jenkins, who lost his life in the line of duty as a result of occupational cancer.

Occupational cancer continues to take far too many members of the fire service, often years after their exposure on the job. Kenny’s service, sacrifice, and memory will never be forgotten.

We are proud to honour Kenny and all fallen firefighters who gave so much in service to others.
