✨ONE KITCHEN. TWO GENERATIONS. A GROWING IMPACT.✨
On February 19, 2026, we met with Michael Mullen, Food Service Manager, Betty Daniels, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels, and Marc Allain, Executive Director of Cé d’ici, at the Meals on Wheels commercial kitchen.
Within the first few minutes, one thing was clear: something powerful is happening in our community. A movement that has been growing for several years — yet remains largely untold.
In 2022, Cé d’ici became a proud partner of Meals on Wheels to prepare and supply school meals to francophone schools in Fredericton. Since then, demand has continued to increase — and so has the impact.
Today, the partners have submitted an application to supply six new anglophone schools as part of the provincial mandate to strengthen food security in schools. Several of these schools do not have cafeteria services for students.
Through this collaboration, Cé d’ici and Meals on Wheels are well positioned to respond to this growing need.
This expansion represents far more than logistics. It reflects shared leadership, strong collaboration, and a collective commitment to ensuring every child has access to nutritious meals during the school day.
But this story goes beyond school lunches.
🔹A LEGACY OF CARE SINCE 1967🔹
Meals on Wheels has served the community since 1967. What began as a simple yet essential initiative, delivering healthy meals to seniors has grown into a full organization supported by 200 dedicated volunteers and a deeply committed board of directors.
More seniors are choosing to remain at home longer. But aging at home can sometimes mean isolation.
Meals on Wheels delivers more than a nutritious meal. It delivers connection.
A warm smile.
“How are you today?”
“How are the grandchildren?”
That human contact makes all the difference.
In 2025 alone, over 100,000 meals were served in the greater Fredericton area, along with 40,000 more in the Saint John region. And the growth continues.
🔹MEETING MULTI-GENERATIONAL NEEDS🔹
Through its school partnership with Cé d’ici and the application to expand services to anglophone schools, Meals on Wheels is now meeting the needs of multiple generations.
Children receiving reliable, nutritious meals at school.
Seniors receiving healthy meals and meaningful human connection at home.
With support from Feed and Nourish NB, the partnership secured funding for essential kitchen equipment and a large freezer, investments that increase production capacity and help meet growing school demand.
Meals on Wheels remains firmly committed to its primary mission of supporting seniors, while embracing the opportunity to expand and meet emerging community needs through the school food program.
🔹WHY SUPPORTING CÉ D’ICI MAKES A DIFFERENCE🔹
Cé d’ici is a social enterprise. Its café and catering services directly support its community mission: providing nutritious and affordable meals to local schools.
Every purchase strengthens the model.
