Attention all Beaver Valley Seniors - Changes to the BV Age Friendly Program
- A message from Mark Daines, Manager of Facilities and Recreation, RDKB

Beaver Valley Recreation is in the process of transitioning over the Age Friendly Program from the Village of Fruitvale to the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary. This transition will take us a little time to hire a new Age Friendly Coordinator and get the program off to a fresh start. While we are in transition, the March luncheon is cancelled.

We are excited to be able to assist you with your recreation needs and we will keep you up-to-date on our progress through the newsletter and through our Beaver Valley Recreation page.

iPads for Beaver Valley Seniors!

The Beaver Valley Age Friendly program is launching an exciting new project! Thanks to a generous grant provided by Employment and Social Development Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program we will be giving iPads to qualified seniors. The goal of the project is to help local seniors use current technology so they can connect with family and friends and services being offered online. This has become especially important since the onset of the pandemic, and being able to use this technology will help people access services such as video call medical appointments.

iPad recipients will be supported through free training sessions, so we encourage those who are new to using computers/iPads to apply. You are never too old to learn new technologies! A list of criteria will be used to select from applicants, as follows:
1) You have volunteered / assisted with the BV Age Friendly program – past or present.
2) You do not already have an iPad or tablet.
3) Only one iPad will be granted per home (couples can share an iPad).
4) You have home internet or are willing to set it up. If cost is a barrier, please still apply and let us know this may be an issue.
5) You are committed to learning how to use the iPad and will attend free training sessions.
6) Residents in assisted living are welcome to apply.

How to Apply:
Please call the Village office at 250-367-7551 by Friday, June 18th and provide your full name, street address, phone number and email address if you have one. We will contact those selected by the last week of June. If you have any questions, please contact Heather Anderson at 250-368-1896 or the Village office.
