Monday October 5th:
October is here, and conditions are such that open burning is allowed again(permit required). Please see link in first comment that will take you to information about how to safely and efficiently burn and to apply for a permit ( there is no cost involved in the permit). Learning what, how and when to burn will help you burn safely and reduce excessively smokey fires.

Tuesday Sept.29th:
Our current fire danger rating is moderate. A 1 hour fire watch is required post machine work. Campfires are allowed but all other open burning remains banned. ( reminder: campfires should not be used to burn yard waste)

Thank you North Galiano Residents and North Galiano Fire Department Society!
Using an accumulation of private donations to the FD Society, we are installing water storage tanks at both North End Fire stations to support your volunteers during training and operations. Stay tuned for more details of the full project scope.

Thursday September 24th:
The small amount of rain we enjoyed yesterday did not change our fire danger rating ( although it kept us from going to extreme again). Our current fire danger rating is HIGH and the 1 pm shut down is in effect. All open burning remains banned.The fire danger rating will be re accessed in late afternoon. Rain has been forecasted in the coming days, and we are hopeful that will be enough to lower the fire danger rating. Friendly reminder that even if the fire danger rating drops open burning will remain banned until further notice. Information about how to apply for a burning permit will be shared when the time comes.

Wednesday Sept.23rd:
We received some rain overnight. Our fire danger rating will be re assessed today at 3pm. Until then our rating remains HiGH and the 1 pm shut down is still in effect. All open burning including campfires remains banned.

Tuesday Sept.22nd:
Our fire danger rating is currently on HIGH.All open burning remains banned, including campfires. The 1 pm shut down is in effect with a fire watch during and 2 hours post. Please continue to respect restrictions, wild fire season is not over.

Sunday September 20th:
Our current fire danger rating is EXTREME. All open burning is banned, including campfires. The 1pm shut down is in effect, with a fire watch during and 2 hours post work. Further restrictions go into place today, due to the length of time are rating has been extreme. See picture below listing further restrictions. Wild fire season is not over, please continue to follow restrictions.
