As a small protected area in the heart of the Thousand Islands, Thousand Islands National Park works to promote sustainable recreation while protecting the land and wildlife that make

the area a popular tourist destination. The park is located in an area of rich biodiversity and is home to many species at risk. Thousand Islands National Park consists of several ecologically important mainland properties and more than 20 islands between Kingston and Brockville. The Visitor Centre at Mallorytown Landing provides an introduction to the park with a hiking trail, interpretive programs, exhibits, and activities for the whole family. The park is a key regional partner in encouraging sustainable lifestyles and in protecting the ecosystems of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve. The Biosphere Reserve, officially designated by the United Nations in 2002, recognizes the region as a place where people live, work, and enjoy a variety of economic and recreational activities based on respect for the environment. Lawrence Islands celebrated its centennial in 2004. The unique ecosystem of the park will be preserved as a legacy for the next century and beyond. 🚨 Attention Thousand Islands boaters: this is your reminder! 🚤

Thousand Islands National Park is an extremely busy destination. As the season continues, remember that you are visiting a national park, not a party venue. People visit these special places to connect with nature, loved ones, and the calm of the outdoors. 🌳

Ensure that your visit sails smoothly ⛵ by keeping these tips in mind for the sake of your nautical neighbours:
🤝 Be respectful of the other visitors trying to enjoy their trip too
🤫 No excessive noise at any time, and be mindful of quiet hours from 10 pm to 8 am
🚶 Leave space for others to freely walk about the docks when gathering in large groups
❌ Saving or reserving dock space is prohibited. Docking is first-come, first-serve
💛 Leave yellow dock spaces open for park and emergency vessels
💙 Leave blue dock spaces open for campers
🙅‍♀️ Liquor is prohibited on docks, in shelters, and in public spaces
👣 Leave no trace – leave the docks and waters as clean as you found them

Staff turtle release day = the best day of the season! 🐢💚

Our staff turtle release day was turt-ally a success with one clutch of 44 snapping turtle hatchlings being released back into their natural habitat. 🥚 Throughout the season, roughly 320 eggs were collected across three species of turtles!

These turtle clutches were excavated early in the season due to their vulnerable roadside locations. 🛣️ After some meticulous incubation, these turtles were finally ready to be reintroduced to their original habitat. 🌿

Thank you to the Parks staff who helped nurture these turtles and release them back to their natural habitat, and to the careful-driving visitors who allowed the Parks team to excavate these eggs. 🚗

Keep your eyes on the road and on your speed for the sake of Thousand Islands National Park’s newest residents. 🫶

Make your next island picnic a plastic-free one. ♻️ Choose to refuse single-use plastics and opt for these sustainable alternatives:

What does pack-in, pack-out mean? Let’s unpack together! 😉🎒

Pack-in, pack-out is a principle meaning that anything you bring to a site, you bring back out with you when you leave. 🚶‍♀️‍➡️

This includes:
🍌 Food waste like fruit peels and shells 🥜
🍫 Garbage like food wrappers and drink cans
🚬 Cigarette butts
💩 Pet waste
☝️ Any other garbage or personal items that were not on the island before YOU brought it there

Welcome to the of island attendants Ralph and Peter! 🏝️🦫

Ralph and Peter begin their day with some heavy lifting -- outfitting their boat with firewood and all the other supplies they’ll need for a day in the islands of the national park. 🚤 They always keep extra bags of firewood on board for campers in need! 🔥

When Peter and Ralph are not around, campers can purchase firewood in the designated firewood bins at certain access points across the islands. 🪵

The pair collect and process boat mooring payments throughout the day, 🗒️ ensuring that park fees are reinvested into the services and facilities that enhance the park experience. ✨

The duo make regular stops to clean the composting toilets and other island facilities to keep them clean and welcoming for visitors. 🧼

Finally, they always make sure to stop and chat with visitors along the way, answering questions, concerns, or sharing their vast knowledge of the park. 🗣️ 😁

With many islands to visit, and many boaters and campers to assist, no two days are ever the same. 👏 Thank you, Ralph and Peter, for helping create memorable experiences for visitors every day!

🌲✨ How lucky are we to enjoy Canada’s picturesque National Parks. Help keep them picturesque by keeping a “Bare” campsite. 🐻

Maintaining a “Bare” campsite means:
👣 Leaving no trace – leave your site exactly how you found it.
🗑️ Properly disposing of all waste – including all garbage, food scraps, and other materials.
🧺 Properly storing all animal attractants – use food storage lockers to properly secure all scented items, do not secure items in a cooler or car.

Make a difference this summer by making no difference at all – leave these special places exactly how you found them for others to enjoy too.
