The 1000 Islands History Museum provides visitors with an inviting setting to reflect on the history of the area. The building itself is build in a style reminiscent to the original cottages and grand hotels that dotted the islands of the St. In the spacious exhibit halls, visitors will find dioramas, videos and interactive displays designed to educate and entertain.

We are delighted to welcome The Trillium Harp Circle to the 1000 Islands History Museum for a special free concert on Friday, June 5th at 2:00 PM.

The Trillium Harp Circle is a group of 6 harpists who meet once a month for an in-person practice at the 1000 Islands History Museum. The members come from all over south eastern Ontario. The harp circle formed online in 2022, and started meeting in-person in 2023. The members range from absolute beginners to an intermediate level and play a variety of music: celtic, folk, classical and more. New members are most welcome!

The secrets are officially out! 🕵️‍♂️🔓

We had an absolutely incredible time celebrating the opening of our brand-new summer exhibit, Cipher | Decipher!

Swipe through to see a recap of the night, plus a sneak peek at our staff setting the stage for a summer of codebreaking. From carefully installing interactive artifact stations to watching our first visitors put their cryptodetective skills to the test, opening day was a massive success.

🧠 A very special thank you to Dave! We were incredibly fortunate to have Dave join us to share his fascinating expertise on the Enigma machine, adding an extra layer of history and insight to our opening.

The 1000 Islands History Museum is looking for enthusiastic and outgoing students to join our team as Museum Interpreters through the Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations program!

This is an exciting opportunity to spend the summer surrounded by local history while gaining hands-on experience in tourism, events, education, and museum programming in the heart of the Thousand Islands. 🌊🏛️

✨ Position Highlights:
• $17.60/hour
• May 5 – August 31, 2026
• 37.5 hours/week (including weekends)
• Work in a fun, community-focused environment
As a Museum Interpreter, you’ll:
🎤 Lead guided museum tours
🛍️ Assist visitors and gift shop sales
🎨 Deliver children’s educational programs
📅 Help plan and run special events

📍 Share local tourism information with visitors from around the world
We’re looking for students who are reliable, friendly, and passionate about history, tourism, or culture. French language skills are considered an asset!
Eligible applicants must be between 16–30 years old and meet Young Canada Works eligibility requirements. Priority will be given to students who have not previously participated in the YCWHO program.
