In 2024, the agriculture and agri-food system:
🚜 employed 2.3 million people,
🥫 provided 1 in 9 jobs in Canada, and
💲 generated $149.2 billion (around 7%) of Canada's gross domestic product (GDP).

By identifying competition barriers in Canada's food supply chain, we can make recommendations to policymakers on how to increase competitiveness across the economy.

We're asking the Competition Tribunal to block Nortera's proposed acquisition of B&G's Green Giant and Le Sieur Canadian vegetable business.

Canned and frozen vegetables are staple grocery items that many Canadians rely on. Nortera is already the dominant supplier of these products in Canada, with brands including Del Monte and Arctic Gardens.

Acquiring the Green Giant and Le Sieur brands would remove Nortera’s only major national brand competitor and further harm competition in an already highly concentrated market.
