Another beautiful morning at Scotsdale, albeit a wee bit chilly! Lately visitors will have noticed a sort of "unkept" look around the Bennett House. With the upcomimg film shoot, the
producers wanted an abandoned look of the house. Film crews will be setting things up on June 3rd, with filming set to begin on June 8th. Things should be wrapped up by June 21st. During these dates there will be limited access around the buildings, some of the fields, and the general parking area. Please pay attention to the posted signage. Trails can be accessed from the 8TH Line, or from the top parking area as you enter from Trafalgar Rd..

Tree Swallows are now moving into the many nesting boxes around the property, apparently well ahead of our Eastern Bluebirds who compete for the same housing! White stands of trilliums are also popping up in many areas of the woods The less common yellow, pink, and maroon varieties can also be found with a sharp eye. Admire, and photograph..........but please Do Not Pick! Our volunteers at the Bruce Trail Conservancy are also keeping busy maintaining the trails, and along the way doing magnificent bridge rebuilds! A big thank you to Neal, Peter, and the rest of the volunteers for their trail support.
Thanks also to Laura and Wayne who have begun their volunteer "Spring Tune Up" efforts around the Bennett House ............ very much appreciated!
I am positive the majority of our visitors appreciate the behind the scenes volunteer efforts that go on, along with our friends at Ontario Heritage Trust who fully support us as well.
Sadly, the visitors who throw their garbage, and "doggy do" bags by the wayside, maybe not so much?
As we move into May visitors will also notice increased activity with film crews. There will now be a production crew on site May 20-21 filming around the pond, and using the main barn buildings. Then, as we have already stated, another major production begins set up June 1, with a planned stay of 3 weeks.
During these times, please follow the posted signs, and keep your pets on leash.
Scotsdale Heritage Farm with 531 acres to explore is a very special place, to be enjoyed, respected, and cared for by us all! After all, this is what Violet and Stewart Bennett desired when they bequested their property to Ontario Heritage Trust in 1982.
A special thank you to all of our supporters too!

Spring is a wonderful time of year as Mother Nature renews Her Planet! At Scotsdale, Spring also sees the return of many migrating birds, such as this pair of Wood Ducks enjoying a quiet afternoon at the pond. Spring also tends to see Hollywood return as well, and this June the Action begins. A film production crew will be setting things up at the beginning of June, with filming planned on/off over the first three weeks of June. ( No filming planned for the weekends ) During this time, there will be limited access to the general parking area, and around most of the buildings. Parking will still be available in the field on the south side as you enter from Trafalgar Road. There is access to the Bennett Trail from there too. We also enlarged the parking area at the 8TH Line if you prefer to park there.
It's a rather chilly day up here today, which may leave the Wood Ducks, and others re-thinking their return date!😊

A beautiful day at Scotsdale, the brilliant sunshine casting early afternoon shadows behind the Bennett House. This January thaw will give us a pleasant mid-winter break, so plan to get out, and enjoy the fresh air! A word of caution though........please hike, and drive carefully while visiting......lots of ice!!
We want to wish all of our followers, and supporters a Happy, Healthy, Safe, Prosperous, and Positive 2026!!

It was a busy morning at Scotsdale today, as a number of hiking groups gathered for their pre-Christmas hikes! One group of 35 BTC hikers had plans to wrap things up at the St. George Pub in Georgetown later today. Parking areas will be very busy, so plan ahead, and carpool where possible. Please do not park along the driveway for safety reasons. The driveway is also icy underneath, so returning to your side swiped vehicle would not be a positive way to end your hike.
And ......Don't Drive In, If You Can't Drive Out!

Some hikers are not aware that Scotsdale Farm also extends over to the west side of Trafalgar Road. The main Bruce Trail runs through this rather swampy area connecting you to Hwy 7. Recently, evidence of a number of fires have been found in this section ( X ) Please contact us, and the folks at Bruce Trail Conservancy if you notice any unauthorised activities here, and for that matter any where else on the property. The Ontario Heritage Trust has a strict policy, No Fires, and No Overnight Caamping / Parking. Thanks for your help!

Once again, a big thank you to our friends at Bruce Trail Conservation. An old growth maple had to be cut down to keep the Bennett Trail passable on the S.W. loop. A couple of other things to be aware of.........with the cooler weather some of the boardwalks and bridges along the trails have become rather slippery, so be careful when on them. Also, on windy days always look up keeping a watchful eye on dead tree limbs. High winds and gravity can make things dangerous!

A beautiful Fall weekend at Scotsdale, this one busy with visitors and hikers! Film crews are gone......barns, and buildings now emptied, props and sets all gone. More fencing work has also been completed, this time by a group of volunteers from the Ontario Heritage Trust. Thank you Kevin, and Chris for leading the charge. Fields have all been worked and seeded now by Totty Bro Farms. Thank you Ethan and Evan for taking up the challenge, helping us with this difficult task. With the rain, and sunshine we should see greening up soon. To help this new growth, please stay off of the fields, and keep to the trails while hiking around the property. In many areas the trails are now covered with a plush gold, rusty carpet as our trees shed this season's foliage. Trails are all in great shape thanks to the due diligience of our volunteer friends from the Bruce Trail Conservancy. As an aside, all visitors should be well aware, much of this beautiful farm is overseen, and maintained by the volunteers from OHT, BTC, and Friends. Donations, big, small or in between are all greatly appreciated!😊

Things remain very busy at Scotsdale, as filming continues. With the spectacular weather we are getting, everything should be wrapped up tomorrow. That said, there will still be lots of activity as trucks and equipment get moved around. Things should be completely back to normal by late next week. Looks like something flew through our main barn door yesterday? I doubt whether it was caused by a flock of Canada Geese though, now gathering at the pond. With their first name, they may be planning to stay put vs travelling south for the winter? Fall colours are not quite as vibrant as past years, but still quite beautiful. Ethan and Evan have done an awesome tilling job, and seeding should follow shortly. A lone 1950 Mercury Eight Sedan sits quietly in the dappled sunlight waiting for it's stage call.
While crews remain on site, please pay attention to the posted signs, and continue to park in the upper south field or at the 8TH Line entrance.
