Having a safe, stable place to call home can make all the difference. This expansion means more opportunities for youth to access housing, build independence, develop life skills, and work toward a brighter future with support along the way.

We’re proud of the work happening at Abbey Ridge and grateful to everyone who helps make this possible. Together, we’re creating more opportunities for young people to feel supported, build confidence, and find their place in the community. 💙

We are proud to share this recent feature highlighting New Dawn’s continued commitment to expanding supportive housing options for youth in Cape Breton.

The addition of seven new units represents an important step in creating greater access to safe, stable, and supportive housing for young people. Through our youth supportive housing programs, we remain focused on providing not only a place to call home, but also the relationships, services, and supports that help young people move toward greater stability and independence.

We are grateful to our dedicated staff, community partners, funders, and supporters whose collaboration makes this work possible.

🏠 Abbey Ridge is expanding to Sydney!

This November, New Dawn will open a new seven-bed Abbey Ridge home in Sydney, creating more safe, stable and supportive housing for youth ages 16 to 24.

The expansion comes at a time when the need for supportive youth housing continues to grow. Abbey Ridge’s existing homes in Glace Bay remain consistently full, with new referrals and a wait list of young people in need of housing and support.

New Dawn’s Director of Youth and Family Care, Larissa Rodriguez, recently joined Wendy Bergfeldt on CBC Radio’s Mainstreet Cape Breton to talk about the need, the new Sydney home, and why keeping young people connected to their communities matters.

We’re hiring Youth Workers at Abbey Ridge!

We’re getting ready to open our new Abbey Ridge location in Sydney this fall, and we’re looking for Youth Workers to join the team.

This is a hands-on role supporting young people aged 16-24 as they work toward their goals and greater independence. Youth Workers help create a safe and welcoming home environment while building positive relationships and offering practical, everyday support. That can mean helping with things like cooking, budgeting or planning for school and work, connecting youth with other supports and services, or simply being a steady and supportive person in their day.

We have 12 positions available, including permanent full-time and casual opportunities.
