“At Abbey Ridge we work with youth who are experiencing homelessness, housing instability, and significant life transitions. Many of the young people who come to us have experienced trauma, family breakdown, poverty, and barriers that make accessing even the most basic necessities difficult. Over the years, Adopt A Teen has made an incredible difference in the lives of the youth we serve, and we are deeply grateful for the compassion and generosity they have shown our community.
Youth sometimes arrive at our program with very little, occasionally with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. Through Adopt A Teen, we have been able to request clothing, shoes, winter gear, and other essential items that help youth regain a sense of comfort, dignity, and stability during one of the most vulnerable moments in their lives. Being able to meet those immediate needs quickly sends a powerful message to young people that they are not alone and that their community cares about them.
Adopt A Teen has also helped remove many practical barriers that youth face. From helping youth access transportation to medical appointments, to providing household items as they move into stable housing, these supports allow us to respond in ways that directly strengthen the wellbeing and stability of the young people we serve.
One of the most meaningful impacts we see is during the holiday season. Many of the youth in our program have experienced significant trauma and have never had the opportunity to experience a Christmas filled with care, kindness, and generosity. Through Adopt A Teen, youth receive gifts and gestures of compassion that create moments of joy, belonging, and hope. These moments mean more than words can express. They remind young people that they are valued and deserving of love and support.
Adopt A Teen has also supported youth during important milestones such as returning to school, starting new jobs, or building independent lives by helping with back to school supplies, clothing, and other necessities that help them move forward with confidence.
The impact that Adopt A Teen has had on youth across the CBRM cannot be overstated. Their generosity has helped countless young people feel seen, supported, and cared for during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
Now, more than ever, Adopt A Teen needs the support of our community so they can continue this important work. As organizations and service providers who have benefited so greatly from their generosity, it is now our turn to step up and show our support.
If you are able, please consider donating, sharing their social media posts, or purchasing 50/50 tickets to help ensure Adopt A Teen can continue operating. Without community support, they may not be able to continue the incredible impact they have had on so many youth in the CBRM. By coming together as a community, we can help ensure that the kindness, generosity, and life changing support that Adopt A Teen provides continues for the youth who need it most.”
