You know you work in C*C when being a safe place for someone matters more than anything else. 🫶🏻

Happy Child and Youth Care Worker Week 💙

This week, we take a moment to recognize and celebrate the incredible individuals who make up our team of youth workers at Abbey Ridge. Your work is rooted in compassion, patience, and an unwavering commitment to supporting young people through both their challenges and their successes.

Every day, you show up with intention and care building meaningful relationships, creating safe and supportive environments, and meeting youth where they are with empathy and respect. You understand that progress is not always linear, that trust takes time, and that even the smallest steps forward can represent significant growth. It is in these moments, both big and small, that your impact is felt most deeply.

Your ability to lead with kindness, remain steady in difficult situations, and provide consistency in the lives of those you support does not go unnoticed. You are advocates, mentors, role models, and a source of stability for so many. The work you do requires not only skill and professionalism, but also heart and you bring all of that and more.

We are profoundly grateful for the dedication, resilience, and passion you bring to your roles each and every day. You help create spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and valued, and in doing so, you are helping to shape stronger, healthier futures.

We celebrate you this week and remain inspired by the impact you continue to make each and every day.

“At Abbey Ridge we work with youth who are experiencing homelessness, housing instability, and significant life transitions. Many of the young people who come to us have experienced trauma, family breakdown, poverty, and barriers that make accessing even the most basic necessities difficult. Over the years, Adopt A Teen has made an incredible difference in the lives of the youth we serve, and we are deeply grateful for the compassion and generosity they have shown our community.
Youth sometimes arrive at our program with very little, occasionally with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. Through Adopt A Teen, we have been able to request clothing, shoes, winter gear, and other essential items that help youth regain a sense of comfort, dignity, and stability during one of the most vulnerable moments in their lives. Being able to meet those immediate needs quickly sends a powerful message to young people that they are not alone and that their community cares about them.
Adopt A Teen has also helped remove many practical barriers that youth face. From helping youth access transportation to medical appointments, to providing household items as they move into stable housing, these supports allow us to respond in ways that directly strengthen the wellbeing and stability of the young people we serve.
One of the most meaningful impacts we see is during the holiday season. Many of the youth in our program have experienced significant trauma and have never had the opportunity to experience a Christmas filled with care, kindness, and generosity. Through Adopt A Teen, youth receive gifts and gestures of compassion that create moments of joy, belonging, and hope. These moments mean more than words can express. They remind young people that they are valued and deserving of love and support.
Adopt A Teen has also supported youth during important milestones such as returning to school, starting new jobs, or building independent lives by helping with back to school supplies, clothing, and other necessities that help them move forward with confidence.
The impact that Adopt A Teen has had on youth across the CBRM cannot be overstated. Their generosity has helped countless young people feel seen, supported, and cared for during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
Now, more than ever, Adopt A Teen needs the support of our community so they can continue this important work. As organizations and service providers who have benefited so greatly from their generosity, it is now our turn to step up and show our support.
If you are able, please consider donating, sharing their social media posts, or purchasing 50/50 tickets to help ensure Adopt A Teen can continue operating. Without community support, they may not be able to continue the incredible impact they have had on so many youth in the CBRM. By coming together as a community, we can help ensure that the kindness, generosity, and life changing support that Adopt A Teen provides continues for the youth who need it most.”
