Last weekend Glassville fire got in the holiday spirit! On Saturday we had our department Christmas party at the Glassville Community Centre. A delicious turkey dinner cooked by the ladies of Glassville, thanks so much! We celebrated a fantastic year of training and development as a station and honoured the founding members of the department for their contributions and commitment to public safety. Congratulations also to Charlie Buxton on his promotion to lieutenant and Joely Allan on being voted firefighter of the year by her piers. Then on Sunday 5 members of the department joined the Bath Santa Claus parade to hand out candy and other goodies. They also got to meet Santa, here’s hoping he brings us the ladder truck they asked for!?!?!

This week Glassville Fire was paged to the scene of an accident involving a tractor/trailer and a small passenger vehicle. Members were first on scene and quickly disabled the vehicle by cutting the battery wires and also provided first aid comfort to those involved. Both occupants of the vehicle suffered only minor injuries and no harm came to the driver of the transport truck. This incident occurred on a narrow section of back road at a bridge crossing. Please be aware of large vehicles that do not know our roads and take extra caution in icy conditions. We are seeing more and more heavy trucks on our roads as drivers follow their GPS blindly to their destination, not aware of the roads twists, turns and narrow passing places. This could have quite easily been a much more serious and tragic incident, all involved were extremely lucky to escape with minimal injuries. Please be cautious and aware when approaching narrow stone bridges, there could be a truck or farm equipment coming the other way. Thanks so much to ANB and RCMP for their quick response and dedication.

It was a busy weekend for Glassville Fire, filled with intense training and fun community engagement.

Members spent their Saturday at Bath fair grounds at a multi department training event. Thanks so much to Bath Regional Fire Dept for hosting and Fire Training Associates for delivering yet another fantastic session. Topics included rapid intervention (rescuing a downed firefighter), hose advancement and locating and removing occupants from a building.

Then in the afternoon members relocated to Riverside Park in Florenceville-Bristol to engage with community at the “trunk-or-treat.” It was a pleasure to see all the smiling faces and fantastic costumes. Thanks to District of Carleton North and Sharon for organizing.
