Heading out for new tech?

Whether shopping in store or online, look for accepted Canadian Certification marks. Any electrical item that needs to be plugged in or charged, such as lights, fans, laptops, tablets, phones, power banks, should have a certification mark to show it has been tested for safety. Even with a certification mark, it is important to still be cautious. Accidents can happen.

✔️Using certified charging blocks and cords is very important. Canadian certification means that an independent group has assessed the product to ensure it meets specific safety requirements.
✔️Only charge devices to full charge not extended periods of time.
✔️Overcharging could cause devices to overheat.
✔️Charge on a hard surface, never on a bed, pillow or couch.
✔️Do not overload outlets.

🔥Prepare, Plan, Pass!

Moving out to go to school? Moving into your first home?

Prepare for your new space with all the essentials, including certified smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. If you are renting, know your tenant rights and responsibilities when it comes to alarms and testing.

Plan the escape route from your new place. Know where the closest stair way is and remember: never use an elevator during an emergency. Make sure you know your address so you can provide it when calling 911.

Pass your classes and learn how to use a fire extinguisher:
P - Pull the pin
A - Aim at the base of the fire
S - Squeeze the handle
S - Sweep back and forth at the fire

🚫Fire blankets are NOT recommended.

Be prepared, have a plan, and stay safe in your new home!

Late summer heat can turn dry lawns, mulch, and yard debris into quick-burning fuel and even small sparks can cause major problems. Carelessly tossed smoking materials are still one of the top causes of preventable outdoor fires.
Before you walk away, take a second to do it right:
✔ Fully put it out (no smoke, no heat!)
✔ Use a proper ashtray
✔ Keep cigarette butts out of gardens, planters, and landscaping
Let’s keep things glowing for the right reasons - sunshine, not fires.
