On behalf of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, we extend our congratulations to Shelby Beardy of Misipawistik Cree Nation on completing her Master of Arts degree in Counselling at Providence University.

Shelby’s achievement reflects her strength, determination, and commitment to helping others. Grounded in faith, family, and community, she has shown resilience through every challenge along her educational journey.

In sharing her accomplishment, Shelby honoured the support of Misipawistik Cree Nation and acknowledged the encouragement of her family, friends, and loved ones who stood beside her along the way. As an Indigenous woman inspired by the strength of her mother and late grandmother, Shelby’s words remind others to reclaim their voice, believe in themselves, and pursue their dreams with confidence.

We acknowledge and honour Shelby’s hard work and the positive example she sets for future generations.

Position: Security Guard / Maintenance Worker

Position Summary: Term (1-3 months TBD)
The Security Guard/Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining the safety,
security, cleanliness, and basic operational upkeep of the Misipawistik Ininīwikamihk. This position combines security monitoring and emergency response duties with
hands-on maintenance responsibilities to support a safe, respectful, and welcoming
environment for all visitors and staff.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Security Responsibilities
• Monitor entrances and exits to ensure safety and prevent unauthorized access.
• Conduct routine patrols of the building and surrounding areas.
• Respond promptly to alarms, disturbances, emergencies, and safety concerns.
• Monitor surveillance systems and report suspicious activity or incidents.
• Ensure visitor and staff safety during public events and operating hours.
• Enforce facility policies and safety procedures in a professional and respectful
manner.
• Maintain incident reports and communicate concerns to management as
required.
Maintenance Responsibilities
• Perform routine maintenance tasks, including minor repairs, painting, and light
plumbing.
• Conduct regular inspections of the facility to identify and address maintenance
needs.
• Ensure cleanliness of public areas, including restrooms and common spaces.
• Report on major maintenance issues to the Facility Manager or appropriate
contractor.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and
community members.
• Perform routine cleaning and general upkeep of the facility and surrounding
grounds.
• Conduct minor repairs and basic maintenance duties as required.
• Ensure walkways, entrances, and public spaces remain clean, safe, and accessible.
• Assist with event setup, teardown, and room preparations, Clean up after events.
• Report maintenance issues or hazards requiring specialized repair.
• Support seasonal maintenance tasks such as snow clearing, salting, and outdoor
upkeep.
Qualifications:
Must be reliable, honest, and dependable.
Someone who is independent, professional, and who can perform routine tasks as needed.
Basic knowledge of hand tools, cleaning equipment, and workplace safety procedures.
Capable of lifting 50lbs and performing manual tasks.
Ability to work a rotating schedule 7 days on /7 days off/ 12 hours shifts from 8:30am-8:30pm.
Wages to be determined. Training for the 1st week will be included.

PARENTS please talk to your children about what to do if they come across used needles - do not touch and report it to an adult.
