The largest drag show ever recorded did not happen in New York, London or West Hollywood. It happened at a country music festival during the Calgary Stampede, in front of 7,423 people in cowboy hats.

Guinness World Records has confirmed the count, handing the title for largest attendance at a drag artist stage show to Drag Me to Cowboys, held on July 11 at Cowboys Music Festival in Alberta.

Sasha Velour opened dressed as a blue tasseled armchair and popped out of the cushions when the beat dropped. Sasha Colby worked the runway.

Then RuPaul arrived in sunglasses and a cowboy hat to DJ, and when organizers announced the record, he grabbed the microphone and lip-synced "We Are the Champions."

Alberta is Canada's conservative heartland, and the Stampede is its biggest mainstream party of the year. Karla Marx, who performed alongside host Farrah Nuff, told the Calgary Herald the turnout showed that q***rness is celebrated and welcome there.

South of the border, Tennessee lawmakers opened their 2026 session with the House passing a bill targeting businesses that host even one drag show a year.

Organizers in Calgary said they wanted this record to become a title worth fighting for. The bar is now 7,423.

Budapest Pride drew tens of thousands this year in the first march since Viktor Orbán was voted out.

After years of anti-LGBTQ+ laws and attempts to ban Pride, the event felt like cautious hope rather than simple celebration. 🌈

EDIT: Due to inclement weather, the event has been moved to the Valleyview Polar Palace. See you there!

That's right, it's that time of year already! Join us for our 4th Annual Pride Party on June 27th 2026. This event is totally FREE and is open to q***r folks and allies of all ages! And, as per usual, we will have our lovely little petting zoo and the RCMP will be bringing a car for us to paint. Thanks again to our many sponsors and volunteers who never fail to amaze us!

Alberta just turned a classroom flag into a provincial fight.

Bill 25 is now law. It says public school boards must display the Canadian and Alberta flags. It also says no other flag can be displayed at a school unless the minister allows it by regulation.

That means Pride flags are not named directly in the ban. They do not have to be. The structure does the work.

The government’s argument is “neutrality.” Schools should be free from politics and ideology. Fine. Let’s take that seriously.

A Pride flag in a classroom is not a party slogan. It is not a campaign sign. For a lot of students, it is a quiet signal that they are not walking into a hostile room.

Calling that “ideology” while calling a government-approved flag “neutral” is the whole problem.

This also goes beyond Pride. Cultural flags, community symbols, and local school displays now sit under a provincial permission system. The minister gets to decide what counts as acceptable belonging.

That is not removing politics from schools. That is moving the politics to the minister’s office.

Schools have real problems. Violence against teachers. Underfunding. Learning gaps. Staff shortages. Those deserve serious attention. Bill 25 includes some language on safety and literacy, but the headline fight is clear for a reason.

The government chose flags.

And when a government spends its energy deciding which students get a visible symbol of welcome, it is telling you what kind of politics it wants in the classroom.

Just not whose.

"How are trans people in Kansas supposed to get a new ID if their current was made invalid with no notice?” They don’t. The whole point is to make existing illegal so they can be harrassed, arrested, killed. It’s not a mistake, it’s not an overlooked detail, it’s the point.
