On Treaty 7 territory, we honour March 20 as Two-Spirit and Indigenous 2SLGBTQIA+ Awareness Day.

At Skipping Stone, we work intentionally each day to ensure Two-Spirit community members aren't an afterthought, and honour that their existence and knowledge is what allows us to exist.

Today, and every day, we recommit to the Two-Spirit common to honour this through learning, growing and working to building spaces that are worthy of the people we serve.

To our Two-Spirit community: you are seen, celebrated, and belong.

"How are trans people in Kansas supposed to get a new ID if their current was made invalid with no notice?” They don’t. The whole point is to make existing illegal so they can be harrassed, arrested, killed. It’s not a mistake, it’s not an overlooked detail, it’s the point.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Q***r Connections Municipal Candidate Meet & Greet! With over 30 people there to ask questions, it was pretty amazing!

We’re also so grateful to the candidates who took the time to come out and engage with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and our allies. Your openness and willingness to listen meant a lot. And a big thank you to our community members for showing up, asking thoughtful questions, and continuing to build an inclusive Grande Prairie.

A heartfelt thanks as well to Safe Communities for hosting us in the big red barn and helping make this event possible on such short notice.

On that note, we recognize there was a moment when emotions ran high between a mayoral candidate and a community member. These conversations can be hard, but they’re important and we encourage everyone to try and keep engaging in respectful, healthy dialogue.

Best of luck to all the candidates in the upcoming election, and thank you again for sharing your evening with us.

What a great idea!

Thank you to everyone who came out for last night's Banned Book Club at Lakeshore Cafe’ to share their thoughts on Gender Q***r by Maia Kobabe. We appreciate the thoughtful discussion and varied perspectives that were present in the discussion.

Next month, our Banned Book Club will be exploring three picture books:

Prince & Knight by Daniel Haack
And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell
The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf

These books have been banned or challenged for varying reasons across history, which we will explore together on Wednesday, October 29th. Whether they focus on true, historical events (And Tango Makes Three), are full of dragon battles and finding true love (Prince & Knight), or were ordered burned in N**i Germany by Hi**er himself (The Story of Ferdinand), these books have made their mark on the world and those who have read them.

Banned Book Club exists to encourage open, respectful dialogue about books that have sparked controversy or debate. We encourage participants to read the stories for themselves, form their own opinions, and engage in thoughtful and respectful discussion.
