The largest drag show ever recorded did not happen in New York, London or West Hollywood. It happened at a country music festival during the Calgary Stampede, in front of 7,423 people in cowboy hats.
Guinness World Records has confirmed the count, handing the title for largest attendance at a drag artist stage show to Drag Me to Cowboys, held on July 11 at Cowboys Music Festival in Alberta.
Sasha Velour opened dressed as a blue tasseled armchair and popped out of the cushions when the beat dropped. Sasha Colby worked the runway.
Then RuPaul arrived in sunglasses and a cowboy hat to DJ, and when organizers announced the record, he grabbed the microphone and lip-synced "We Are the Champions."
Alberta is Canada's conservative heartland, and the Stampede is its biggest mainstream party of the year. Karla Marx, who performed alongside host Farrah Nuff, told the Calgary Herald the turnout showed that q***rness is celebrated and welcome there.
South of the border, Tennessee lawmakers opened their 2026 session with the House passing a bill targeting businesses that host even one drag show a year.
Organizers in Calgary said they wanted this record to become a title worth fighting for. The bar is now 7,423.
