🏆CHAMPION Huge congratulations to Tara Ashrafi from the Fort St John Elks Speed Skating Club, recipient of the Speed Skating BC Champion Award! Being a champion isn’t just about podium finishes, it’s about character. This award recognizes individuals who care deeply, choose to learn, and take the first step to advocate for others.

Tara wanted to make speed skating more accessible for everyone. She attended specialized workshops on adapted programming, asked questions, and took those lessons directly to public skating sessions to support her community members. Through her spirited advocacy, fundraising, and dedication to supporting persons with disabilities, she is truly helping plant the seeds of inclusion across our province.

🌟So many speed skating Personal Bests & Season Best times on the short track this season for all of these athletes, and PB's on the long track! 💙🩵💙Plus, their enthusiasm, leadership and volunteering in the community makes this bunch such a great, well-rounded group of youth! 😄

🎉From try-it days and basic speed skating fundamentals to representing our region at the Alberta Winter Games & Arctic Winter Games, these athletes work hard & have fun together!

We’re hosting a virtual Community Town Hall on June 25 to talk through SSA’s move to the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism and what that means for our community. We’ll also take some time to go through the SSA Code of Conduct in a more practical, easy-to-follow way so it’s clearer how it applies in day-to-day situations across our sport, beyond just a registration check-box.
