Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grande Prairie & Area Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grande Prairie & Area strives to enhance the healthy development of child Why Be a Mentor?

For just a few hours a couple of times a month, you can help a child succeed. Big Brothers Big Sisters is different from other mentoring organizations in that we seek volunteers who are committed and consistent, willing to serve at least a year, but we hope until a child graduates high school. Studies show that by doing so, our mentoring services help kids stay in school, avoid risky behaviour, an

d experience first-hand the importance of helping others in their community. Professional staff is there to work with you, the child and the family throughout the course of the mentoring relationship to provide necessary training and support. Funding allows us to carefully make and support more matches. Sometimes, the supply of volunteers and kids is greater than the necessary agency funding. We are grateful for your willingness to be involved and while it is certainly not a requirement, we welcome you to also become a donor - as you volunteer or wait to be matched.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grande Prairie & Area is proud to be part of this year's Pride celebration, and we'd love to see you there!

We were honoured to attend Indigenous Culture Day at Charles Spencer High School.

Thank you to the students, staff, and organizers for creating such a welcoming and meaningful event. We enjoyed connecting with youth, sharing information about Big Brothers Big Sisters, and learning alongside so many community partners.

Today we said goodbye to our ducklings at BIG Horizons.

What started as a few eggs quickly became one of the highlights of our program. Over the past few weeks, our youth had the opportunity to watch them hatch, grow, explore, and even take their first swims.

The ducklings brought curiosity, excitement, laughter, and countless learning opportunities to our days. They reminded us that growth takes time, encouragement, and a safe environment to thrive.

We're grateful for the memories, lessons, and smiles they brought to BIG Horizons.

Good luck on your next adventure, little ducklings. We'll miss you! 💙🦆

From outdoor games and scavenger hunts to science experiments, wood working, talent shows, crafts, and summer kick-off activities our youth are in for an exciting month filled with creativity, connection, and mentorship. 💛

We’re especially excited to welcome full-day summer programming starting June 22 with even more opportunities for youth to learn, explore, build confidence, and make lasting memories in a safe and supportive space.

There’s been a whole lot of peeping, waddling, learning, and excitement happening at BIG Horizons lately.

What started as tiny eggs quickly turned into one of the most talked-about experiences in our After-School Program.

Our youth had the chance to learn about growth, responsibility, patience, and connection while watching these little ducklings hatch and explore the world around them.

🦆 Fun Facts:
• Ducklings can recognize sounds and communicate with each other before they even hatch.
• Ducks thrive when they feel safe, connected, and supported by their flock.
• Ducklings learn important life skills by staying close to trusted adults and exploring together.

Some duck species travel thousands of kilometers during migration, including through the Peace Region wetlands around Grande Prairie proving even the smallest wings can go incredible distances with the right support along the way.

Sometimes the smallest experiences create the biggest moments of wonder. ✨

Last week at the Youth Career Expo, we asked local youth some BIG questions about their dreams, goals, futures, and the impact they hope to make on the world. 💭💛

The answers?

Inspiring. Honest. Hopeful. Powerful.

From future aerospace engineers and pilots to youth wanting to help animals, support their families, make their parents proud, and change the world this generation is full of potential.

At BBSGP, we believe every young person deserves someone who believes in them, encourages them, and reminds them of their future matters.
