Thank you to MPP Sam Oosterhoff for meeting with members of Inclusion West Niagara’s Self Advocates today to discuss important topics that impact our community. Self Advocates, Ken, Pauline and Joey came prepared with some very important questions and gained insight into how we can all contribute to supporting inclusion for all.

As we wrap up another meaningful Community Living Month, today we’re taking a moment to and share a selfie in support of the Community Living movement. We will be sharing these all day today.

Our team was encouraged to pause and enjoy a well-earned treat as a way to say thank you for their commitment to building a world where everyone is included and valued.

Inclusion West Niagara has installed a flagpole at both our Grimsby and Beamsville locations. Our flags have been planned as part of our grief and loss actions – flags will be lowered to half mast when required. We are proud of this meaningful action to be taken on the last days of Community Living Month.

Some of the Self Advocates from Inclusion West Niagara had a discussion recently about advocacy and inclusion. Below are some highlights from their conversation.

Pauline said: Ask questions before you agree or say no to doing something, and don’t be scared to give your opinions.
Pauline told us about a time she advocated for a friend who needed help and couldn’t ask for help on his own.
Ken said: I always say hi to people when I come into a room and ask them how they’re doing. And when I don’t want to do something, I say no in a nice way.
Joey said: I ask people if they need help, like I do for my grandma. I’m also learning to ask questions before I say yes to doing something.
