Congratulations Carson! Your commitment to sports and recreation in our community is admirable and we greatly appreciate everything you do and have done!

At the regularly scheduled Town of Grimshaw Community Services Advisory Board Meeting held on October 21, 2026, we had the honour of presenting the 2026 Steve Bolkowy Sports Award to Carson Ewing!

For the past 11 years, Carson has consistently gone above and beyond to provide students with opportunities to participate in a wide variety of sports. During this time, he has coached golf, cross-country running, volleyball, curling, badminton, and track & field, and continues to coach these sports this year. His commitment to athletics is further demonstrated through his role as the school’s Athletic Director for all 11 years, where he has helped support, organize, and promote athletic opportunities for countless students.

Carson’s commitment extends beyond the school and into the broader community. During the 2022/2023 season, he served as an assistant coach with the Peace River Navigators, further demonstrating his passion for developing athletes and supporting sport in our region.

For over a decade, Carson has given his time, energy, and passion to students, often behind the scenes and without seeking recognition. His dedication has helped generations of young people discover the value of teamwork, perseverance, sportsmanship, physical activity, and community involvement.

Carson Ewing is much more than a coach. He is a mentor, leader, role model, and advocate for youth. His long-standing commitment to athletics and to creating meaningful opportunities for students makes him an exceptional candidate for this recognition.

Established in 1972, this annual award recognizes outstanding individuals who have dedicated their time, energy, and passion to volunteering in sports and recreation throughout our community and surrounding area.

For over five decades, this award has celebrated the incredible volunteers who help make Grimshaw and the surrounding area a stronger, more active, and vibrant community. Their commitment to supporting local sports and recreation programs creates opportunities for people of all ages and leaves a lasting impact on those they serve.

Residents can now use this form to submit concerns, report issues, or provide feedback directly to Administration. This is the official way to ensure your concern is documented, tracked, and directed to the appropriate department for follow-up. Over the weekend, our hearts were broken by the news of the tragic events that unfolded in the Wainwright community at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright.

On behalf of Town Council and our residents, we extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, military members, first responders, and all those affected by this unimaginable loss. During times of tragedy, the strength of a community is found in the way people come together to support one another.

We recognize the profound impact this loss has on the military community, the Town of Wainwright, and the many individuals whose lives have been touched by this tragedy. Please know that you are not facing this alone. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected.

In moments like these, we are reminded of the importance of compassion, connection, and community. We offer our unwavering support and heartfelt sympathies to all who are mourning.

The current franchise fee of 6% per cent will change to 8% per cent, effective January 1, 2027. The franchise fee percentage is applied to the distribution tariff, typically consisting of both distribution and transmission charges.

Based on the typical monthly consumption of 625 kilowatt hours, the average monthly franchise fee paid by an average residential customer is expected to increase to $10.95.

Here are the highlights from the October 14 Council Meeting:

• Council approved the purchase of two signs from the Peace District Rural Sign Program. These signs will be going up near the drainage ditch and in the industrial area in Grimshaw.
• Council approved the Grimshaw Centennial Park Concept Plan as presented, including the proposed park library and reading area. With its mandate complete, the Grimshaw Centennial Park Steering Committee will dissolve, and Administration, together with Mackenzie Municipal Services Agency (MMSA), will continue implementing the approved park concept.
• Council will be decorating and entering a mini tree into the final Festival of Mini Trees, which will be held at the Grimshaw Municipal Library from December 1 to 6, 2026.
• Council made the decision to move the Organizational Meeting and Regular Council Meeting from October 28 to October 29, 2026, due to a scheduling conflict. The Organizational Meeting will begin at 6:30pm, with the Regular Council Meeting starting at 7:30pm.

*Due to a scheduling conflict, this public hearing has been moved to October 29 at 7:30 pm.

Pursuant to Section 606(2) of the Municipal Government Act, RSA 2000, being Chapter M-26 of the Statutes of Alberta, notice is hereby given that the Council of the Town of Grimshaw will hold a public hearing prior to the second reading of Bylaw No. 1220 for an amendment to Land Use Bylaw No. 1146.

Bylaw No. 1220 proposes to redistrict the lands legally described as Lot 11, Block 3, Plan 892 0318 from Residential 2 District (R-2) to Residential 2A District (R-2A).

If adopted by Council, Bylaw No. 1220 would allow for the potential placement of a manufactured home on Lot 11, Block 3, Plan 892 0318, subject to development permit approval and other applicable requirements of the Land Use Bylaw.

The Public Hearing is to be held as follows:
Date: Wednesday, October 29, 2026
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Location: Council Chambers, Town of Grimshaw Office, 4612 50 Street, Grimshaw, Alberta.

The proposed Bylaw may be viewed at the Town Office during regular office hours or online www.grimshaw.ca.
