May 4 is recognized as International Firefighters Day!

It is a day we take to appreciate and thank the local firefighters who give their time to helping keep our community safe.

It is also a day to recognize and appreciate the past firefighters who lost their lives during service.

What a training night looks like at the Grimshaw Fire Hall. Sometimes we have to be ready to enter burning buildings and maneuver through tricky obstacles. These practices are a good way to work on that.

The Grimshaw Fire Department and Lac Cardinal Fire Department would like to send our deepest condolences to the Families, First Responders and Community involved in the tragedy that happened in Tumbler Ridge Yesterday.

It is times like these that the community needs to come together to support each other.

In honor of those involved the Grimshaw Fire Hall will be lowering their flags to half-mast.

All members are compensated at the end of the year with an Honorarium based on their attendance at practices, calls and fire prevention events.

🚒 Requirements:
• Must be 18+ to become a firefighter
• Ages 16–17 can apply as Junior Firefighters

Successful applicants will be expected to participate in training; weekly and online, to become a full member of our teams.

Membership in the Fire Departments is drawn from within the boundaries the Municipal District of Peace (including the Village of Berwyn, Hamlet of Brownvale, and the Town of Grimshaw).

January is Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month!

Whenever a Firefighter goes to any sort of fire they put their health on the line and are at risk of developing cancer.

In 2014 a study was done and it was found that Firefighters have a 9% higher risk of cancer diagnosis, and a 14% higher risk of dying from cancer than the general public.

Want to take a minute to thank Alberta Health Services for choosing us to be recipients for the MFR Training and Equipment Fund!

It’s because of awards like this that we have been able to equip our trucks with brand new trauma bags and a new AED for our command unit!
