WAY TO GO City of Mississauga
In recognition of Earth Day, City of Mississauga Animal Services staff came together to help create a cleaner, safer environment.
This year’s cleanup focused on the Animal Shelter Centre grounds, including the front and back areas, surrounding greenspace, and nearby natural waterways. Staff collected debris such as cigarette butts, plastics, cardboard, food wrappers, and metal waste.
Keeping these spaces clean is important not only for the appearance of the community, but also for protecting wildlife, reducing health risks, and preventing animals from accessing harmful materials or human-related food sources.
The initiative also reinforced the importance of not feeding wildlife and reducing attractants that can contribute to coyote interactions. Clean spaces help support safer coexistence between residents and wildlife.
These efforts make a direct difference by creating safer public spaces, reducing environmental hazards, and promoting awareness about responsible waste disposal and wildlife interactions. A cleaner environment supports healthier ecosystems and benefits both residents and animals.
