David Dorion is a resident at Wellington Terrace (our long-term care home), alongside his wife, Connie.
When new residents come to the Terrace, our recreational therapy team asks them what experience they’d like to have during their time with us. It could be something they’ve always wanted to do, something they deeply enjoy or miss, or something that brings back a cherished memory. We call it our ‘Wellington Wishes’.
David’s answer? "I'd love to go to space."
Way to keep the team thinking big, David! While we couldn't arrange a trip to the stars, we did something pretty special.
An avid non-fiction reader and lifelong learner, David loves discovering new ideas and perspectives. So, on May 30, David's 94th birthday, Recreation Therapist Karn Denkers accompanied him to ‘An Evening with Chris Hadfield’. There, David had the opportunity to meet the former Canadian astronaut and hear stories from a truly remarkable career, including as the first Canadian to command the International Space Station.
A special thank you to Col. Chris Hadfield for making David’s ‘Wellington Wish’ come true.
Thank you also to Bridget Hinnegan and the rest of the team at THEMUSEUM for generously providing the tickets. And, last but not least, thank you to the incredible Life Enrichment team at Wellington Terrace for creating this and so many other meaningful experiences that bring joy, inspiration, and connection to our residents.
Happy 94th, David. 🚀
