Guelph Food Bank

Guelph Food Bank Guelph Food Bank helps those in need of food support. People Helping People. For more information, contact the Guelph Food Bank at 519-767-1380.

Through the Guelph Food Bank’s Hamper, excess, and agency support programs alone we assisted over 21,600 individuals in the year 2013. Food Bank clients vary in age and ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, but they have one thing in common: they are all faced with financial hardship. Due to illness, short-term crisis, adverse economic conditions, and the ever increasing cost of living, our clien

ts cannot afford to buy the needed groceries to adequately feed themselves and/or their families. Over 30 Local Agencies, Neighbouring Food Banks and Pantries were supported through various GFB Programs. 1,110,300 pounds of food was distributed in 2013. Our goal is not only to help meet the needs of our clients in the short term, but also to help clients become self-sufficient and gain and maintain self-worth / esteem to eventually stand on their own with little or no help from agencies and groups within this community.

🍽️ Hunger isn't about bad choices. It's about the math not adding up.
In Guelph, that means 5,000+ people turning to every month and 1 in 3 are just children. This September during Hunger Month, we're asking you to do something about it: by making a monthly commitment of just $20. That’s just $5 a week. Can you help us provide healthy options to those facing food insecurity?

🍽️Hunger isn’t caused by bad choices. It’s caused by income that can’t cover today’s cost of living — and support systems that don’t fill the gap.

In Guelph, that gap is real:
☝️upwards of 5,000+ people supported every month in GFB’s network alone
⬆️ 40% jump in visits since early 2025.
🧑‍🧒‍🧒More than 1 in 3 are children

🗓️September is Hunger Action Month. To learn more about food insecurity and the decisions one might have to make to make ends meet, start by trying Feed Ontario’s Fork in the Road tool —Link in comments.

Understanding the problem means that together, we can work towards a solution to end hunger once and for all.

‼️ The Bridge Builders program has been extended ‼️
Between our seasonal food drives, the gap doesn't close — the need in Guelph doesn't take a season off, and now neither do our Bridge Builders.

🎒 High school students can now earn community service hours year-round by running their own food and fund drives for Guelph Food Bank. This isn't a one-time event — it's an ongoing way for students to help bridge the gap between long-term food security and what our neighbours need right now.

✏️ Sign up however works for you:
🟠 On your own
🟠 With a few friends
🟠 As a full team, club, or class

However you build it, it counts — toward your hours, and toward real impact in this community. Sign up by emailing [email protected] today!

Since 2012 this amazing sister duo have been raising money for various causes to support the needs in the community. And today, Guelph Food Bank was the recipient of $1,300 to go towards the purchase of protein foods needed for special diets.
They have been collecting cans and scrap metal, turning it into cash. They are a wonderful example of how a small team can make a big impact. Thank you for your amazing contribution! Want to contribute too? You can run a food drive, collect food or funds at work, collect donations at an event you’re already attending… email us at [email protected] to learn how you can help too! In October 2025, we were approached by the Dry Bean Breeding and Computational Biology program University of Guelph Department of Plant Agriculture with the following question: would we accept a donation of dry beans? Absolutely we would! What came was 5,030 lbs of beans. And not just ANY beans, but hearty healthy beans that came from a lot of hard work and research that will help bean farmers yield bigger, healthier crops and compete on a global scale. The open house today was so informative and all involved demonstrated so much passion about their work which in turn will feed so many communities around the world. This partnership allowed us to provide 55,000 servings of plant-based protein over 8.5 months in our Guelph Food Bank network. We look forward to continuing this amazing partnership!
