🌿 June is National Indigenous History Month 🌿

National Indigenous History Month is a time to honour and celebrate the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples across Canada.

At Fleming CREW Employment Centre, we recognize that reflecting on our shared history is an important step toward building a more inclusive future. Learning about Indigenous perspectives and experiences helps inform how we deliver our services, support job seekers, and work alongside employers to create welcoming, respectful, and equitable workplaces for everyone.

This month, we encourage our community to take time to learn, listen, and engage in meaningful conversations about reconciliation and the ongoing contributions of Indigenous Peoples. Every step toward understanding helps strengthen our communities and workplaces.

Fleming College is hosting a variety of interactive events throughout June, including a hands-on exploration of lacrosse, known as The Creator's Game, and a medicinal plant walk through the Haliburton Sculpture Forest.

Support with Stacking Wood Needed! 📣

Every winter, families in need reach out to Heat Bank for support with heating and hydro. One of these supports is free firewood, which is provided to ensure homes have enough heat to keep families safe and warm.

To prepare for the coming winter, we hope you can attend our wood stacking get-together on Saturday, June 6th, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Abbey Gardens! Lunch will be provided at 1:00 pm.

🔥 Invite your friends and neighbours too! The more helping hands, the lighter the work.

Further details below, but please don’t forget to RSVP on this link so we can plan properly:

-----

➡️ Things to bring with you:

- If you feel comfortable using and have a small axe for splitting up larger wood pieces, please bring.

- If you have a wheelbarrow - and a rake - please bring them along with you. That'll make moving the split wood easier and generally clean up the area.

- Please also make sure you are wearing appropriate footwear, bring gloves and water is recommended!

Thank you, everyone! Heat Bank and CFN's programs are fuelled by neighbours helping neighbours. We couldn't be more grateful for your support.

Together, we make sure no neighbour goes hungry or cold.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the diversity, strength, and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals across our communities.

We recognize that people experience the workplace differently based on their unique identities and lived experiences, and we strive to bring an intersectional lens to everything we do.

We also encourage employers throughout our region to build welcoming, inclusive workplaces where all employees can thrive, contribute, and feel valued.
