Last week, Dalhousie Medical Students came by to host a “Teddy Bear Clinic” for the children at The Rose! Participants had a blast learning about medical tools with this hands on activity.

We also had the Halifax Rec Van visit the Sunflower to provide fun outdoor activities for families.

Last month, Dr. Meghan Hansford joined community leaders from across the provincial GBV sector to meet with Minister Rechie Valdez and Halifax MP Shannon Miedema to discuss the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence and renewed federal funding for Nova Scotia.

Gender-Based Violence is an epedemic- and ending it requires more than statements of concern. It requires political will, sustained investment, accountability and action.

We had productive conversations around tangible actions needed to strengthen prevention and response. The federal government has a critical role to play and so does the Province of Nova Scotia.

Community leaders have identified what is needed. Now is the time for all levels of government to match the urgency of this crisis with meaningful action.
