"At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them."
RCSCC Nelson cadets and staff were proud to be at the Naval Memorial in Point Pleasant Park today along with HMCS Scotian and Martime Forces Atlantic to commemorate Remembrance Day. This ceremony, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, stands on the anniversary of the Armistice that brought an end to the First World War β it honours not only those who served in that conflict, but the memory of all who have sacrificed their time, their health, and in many cases their very lives for Canada and for a better world in conflicts across the decades.
"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old. Age will not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them." βLaurence Binyon, 'For the Fallen'
This annual tradition of Remembrance is the Cadet Program's most important public ceremony, and it is wonderful to see the enormous turnout of our youth who show up rain or shine to be a part it every year. In addition to marching in the ceremonial parade, RCSCC Nelson and NLCC Mi'kmaq cadets also assisted with the laying of wreaths at the Naval Memorial, demonstrating their commitment to citizenship and community service.
Thank you to all who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We will remember them.
