Civic Events directly or indirectly delivers all aspects of special events that affect the Halifax Regional Municipality. HRM support events that build community, foster good community relations, develop local economy and tourism industry, and enrich the quality of life of all residents and visitors. The Halifax Regional Municipality hosts many community based special events throughout the year including events such as Canada Day, HRM Tree Lighting, Natal Day and Hopscotch.

The Halifax Regional Municipality regrets to inform the public that due to the special weather statement issued by Environment Canada and the anticipated 50mm+ of rainfall on Sunday August 23rd, the Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition has been cancelled.

Residents’ safety is the municipality’s top priority. This annual event typically attracts around 10,000 people to a rural area of the municipality, accessible by a single lane road. Municipal staff have determined that, with continued wet conditions on the highway and around the entrance to the beach, the risk is too high to safely move forward with the event.

The 129th Lake Banook Fireworks Show has been cancelled due to inconsistencies in the fog and rain forecast for this evening. This event was originally scheduled for Monday, Aug. 3 at 9:30 p.m. at Lake Banook.

Tonight at 9:30 pm is the outdoor movie A Minecraft Movie plus fun activities and bouncy castles before the show.
