What happens when you bring together creative students, a real community challenge and a little entrepreneurial thinking? 🦌🌱

Post-secondary students came together for the Oh Deer! Help Our Urban Gardens Hackathon to tackle the growing challenge of urban deer populations impacting community gardens. Through site visits, conversations with community partners and problem-solving, participants developed innovative solutions designed to make a meaningful impact right here in our community.

A huge thank you to our partners Centre for Leadership Excellence, Halifax Regional Municipality, CLARI, Common Roots Urban Farm BiHi and JustFood for helping bring this challenge to life.

Congratulations to our first-place team — Malik Abdullahi, Chloe Staple, Wyn Go and Elijah Bucci — for their outstanding solution and presentation.

We are hiring a Natural Resources Innovation Intern for the Natural Resources Innovation Internship Project (NRII). In this role, you’ll work in small interdisciplinary teams to explore real-world challenges in Nova Scotia’s natural resources sector, applying innovation methods to develop practical outputs such as prototypes, tools, strategies or insight briefs, with support from mentors and sector experts.

Pay: $23.80/hour including 4% Vacation Pay
Hours: 35 hrs/week (In-Person)
Term: May – August 2026 (16-week paid internship)

What you’ll do:
-Work on real challenges in Nova Scotia’s natural resources sector
-Use innovation methods like research, system mapping and prototyping
-Collaborate with students from diverse disciplines
-Produce tangible outputs (tools, prototypes, strategies or insights)

What you’ll get:
-Paid, full-time internship experience
-Mentorship from Sandbox staff and industry partners
-Hands-on experience with real sector problems
-Opportunity to present your work to government and sector stakeholders

-College, undergraduate and graduate students continuing studies in Fall 2026
-Students from all disciplines (engineering, science, business, design and more)

We are hiring a Student Assistant to work with the Marketing & Communications team at the Centre. In this role, you’ll support the Marketing team by creating content, planning and managing social media, designing graphics and capturing content at events while helping share the stories and successes of our entrepreneurial community.

Pay: $19/hour + 4% Vacation Pay

We’re looking for 6 mental health professionals to support entrepreneurs in our Access Ability Entrepreneurship Incubator (June–November).

Each professional will:
- Provide on-demand support on stress management, resilience and related topics
- Create one online course
- Lead one group session

Total compensation: $1,750 per professional for the 6‑month commitment.
