Huge love and appreciation to Lyla, Jordan, Akmed, Ellie, Cassidy, and (not pictured) Mofe and Ali! 💙

While most students were kicking back for the summer, this incredible group chose to spend their time off making an impact at Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank. From packing and sorting food to rolling up their sleeves for our furniture giveaways, helping out with essential fundraising, and prepping families for our back-to-school programs, these kids showed up every step of the way.

September is Hunger Action Month, and we’re keeping things simple this year: our goal is to raise $3,000 to keep fresh dairy, eggs, meat, and vegetables stocked for our neighbours who need them. 🧡

Grocery prices are hitting everyone hard right now, but for a lot of folks in HRM, it means making impossible choices at the checkout line.

A $25 donation covers helps with perishables for a family's grocery support this week. If you’re in a position to help us hit our $3,000 goal this month, we’d be so grateful.

Today is a bittersweet day for all of us at Parker Street as we say goodbye to our summer students, Portia (left) and Louisa (right), who have been helping out in our food bank for the past few months.

Both graduates of Citadel High School, these bright young women have big plans for the future, with each going off to university to pursue careers in nursing.

“One of my favorite things about working at Parker Street is being up front and talking to people coming from all different backgrounds. I got to learn a lot, and I feel like this experience is going to be helpful in my future career.” - Portia

What a weekend! Thanks to our dedicated staff, superstar volunteers, and everyone who stopped to chat at the Alderney Ferry Terminal over Natal Day weekend, we raised $2,433.92 to support our community programs at Parker Street Food and Furniture.

Every dollar makes a real difference, and we had a blast connecting with everyone down by the water. We’re already looking forward to doing it all again during the Parade of Lights this November!

We are seeking a compassionate, community-minded individual to join our Halifax team as a Furniture Driver! Visit us at https://parkerstreet.org/news/jobs/ to view the complete job posting.

If you have experience driving a cube van and don't mind heavy lifting, this full-time role could be for you.

The Role: Drive a company vehicle to pick up donations and deliver food, furniture and household items to clients in need.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (40 hours a week), with occasional weekend work for events.

Pay & Benefits: $19 an hour plus a group benefits package.

Requirements: A valid driver's licence, clean driving record, and the ability to lift up to 75 pounds.

That's a wrap on our 2026 Back-to-School Program! This year, we were fortunate to have 94 volunteers perform nearly 24 hours of volunteer work in support of this initiative. Parker Street would like to sincerely thank all our donors and volunteers for their contributions. Your support and generosity mean nearly 1,000 kids will go to class with confidence this fall.
