Tonight Station 60 Herring Cove recognized a number of members for their dedication to the community in 2025.

Pictured left to right, last year’s top responders were:

Firefighter/Eng Francis
Firefighter/Eng Polvi
Firefighter Burgess
Captain Vollmer
Firefighter/Eng Power

Furthermore two members pictured below were issued long service awards:

Firefighter Burgess was issued the Fire Services Exemplary Service Bar. Awarded by the Chancellery of Canadian Orders, this bar honours members of a recognized Canadian fire service who have completed 30 years of service.

Firefighter/Eng Polvi was issued the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal. Awarded by the Chancellery of Canadian Orders, this metal honours members of a recognized Canadian fire service who have completed 20 years of service.

Additionally, FF/Eng Polvi was also recognized this year within the station as our annual “Heart & Hustle” award winner, which recognizes those who go above and beyond the expectations for their peers, community and the station as a whole.

Thank you to the community of Herring Cove who showed up in full force to support Feed Nova Scotia today. Due to your generosity we were able to collect and pack 130 boxes of food and raise over $1300.00 for those in need.

This yearly event would not be able to happen without the generosity of the local businesses in our area. Thank you to Fair Winds Landscaping & Excavation for graciously loaning us a trailer, No Frills & Sobeys Spryfield for over 600 reusable bags & Pavia Gallery ~ Espresso Bar & Café for keeping us fueled throughout the day.

Missed us today? We will be at the Ketch Harbour Community Centre this coming Saturday the 13th from 9am - 12PM.

Congratulations to our very own Firefighter Mabe as she embarks on this new journey!

Michelle is Truro Fire Service’s first female career Firefighter.

We are thrilled to see her making her dream come true and making history in the process.

The Town of Truro is proud to welcome three new recruits to Truro Fire Service today:

Michelle Mabe – joining us from HRM, Michelle makes history as the first female career firefighter with Truro Fire.

Allan Donovan – a dedicated Truro volunteer, now continuing his service in a full-time role.

Benjamin Semple – from Colchester, Benjamin completed six weeks of on-the-job firefighter training through Holland College.

Join us in welcoming and congratulating Michelle, Allan, and Benjamin as they begin their careers with Truro Fire Service. We look forward to the skills and dedication they will bring to serving our community.
