🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation | September 30
Today, the cadets and staff of 2814 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps pause to remember.
We remember the children who were taken from their families and communities, and those who never returned home. We honour residential school Survivors, their families, and the generations of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples who continue to live with the impacts of this history.
September 30 is more than a day to wear orange. It is a day to listen, learn, reflect and act.
As members of the Canadian Cadet Program and as young Canadians, we have a responsibility to learn the truth of Canada's history and consider what reconciliation can look like in our own communities.
🧡 How can we take action?
• Learn: Listen to Indigenous Elders, Survivors, educators, authors and organizations. Seek out Indigenous voices and perspectives.
• Remember: Honour the children who never came home and the Survivors who have shared their stories.
• Support Indigenous communities: Support Indigenous-owned businesses, artists, authors and organizations, and participate in Indigenous-led events and learning opportunities.
• Take action: Learn about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action and consider what actions you can take in your own community.
• Keep learning: Truth and reconciliation cannot be limited to one day. The work continues every day.
Today, we encourage our cadets to pause and reflect:
What have I learned?
What can I learn next?
How can I show respect?
What can I do to contribute to reconciliation?
🧡 We remember. We listen. We learn. We act.
May we carry that commitment with us—not only today, but every day.
