Special Areas Board

Special Areas Board Special Areas is a unique rural municipal area covering approximately 2.1 million hectares in southeastern Alberta.

The Special Areas Board provides municipal services and public land management. Special Areas Board (SAB) social media pages are for communication of programs, services, news and events to keep residents informed. SAB social media is not monitored outside of regular business hours. Direct messages and posts are not considered official correspondence. All comments will be regularly moderated and re

viewed by SAB communication staff. The Special Areas Board will not tolerate or respond to comments that are offensive to, or violate the privacy of, an individual or an organization, or comments that are rude in tone, or abusive as determined by SAB. Users comment at their own risk, taking personal responsibility for comments, username and any information provided. If SAB Communication staff find that a comment or post contravenes any of these guidelines, staff will make a copy of the comment for the record and delete or hide the comment/post from SAB’s page. If the user continues to contravene any of the guidelines they shall be blocked from SAB social media pages.

🎉Please join us in welcoming Tope Odewale to the Special Areas Team as the Facilities Manager.

🏗️Tope comes to the Special Areas with a wealth of knowledge in facility operations & infrastructure management. His experience with strategic planning, project management and life cycle planning, will help ensure our facilities are well taken care of.

⚽️When Tope isn't at work, he enjoys activities such as playing soccer and lawn tennis. When the gas prices aren't quite so high, he also enjoys just cruising around.

🌧️The rain is much needed, but with that much rainfall it can also cause damage. Creeks and drainage ditches overflow and roads can be washed out.

🚨 See a fire or accident?

Here’s what to do:
✅ If it’s safe, pull over and call 9-1-1. Stay where you are while calling—this helps dispatchers pin your exact location.
✅ Give as much info as possible. Dispatchers ask lots of questions to help first responders. Please be patient.
✅ Call even if you think someone else already did.
✅ Stay on scene until first responders arrive.

Things NOT to do:
❌ Don’t keep driving while calling—this gives an inaccurate location and delays help.
❌ Don’t call your buddy on the fire department—ALWAYS call 9-1-1 first.
❌ Don’t call 9-1-1 unless you’re sure it’s an emergency.

Roadside grass control (ditch cutting) along local roads will begin June 8.

🌾 Planning to hay your ditch?
Please contact your local District Office as soon as possible so crews can schedule their work. Any requested areas that are not harvested by July 5 will be cut by roadside crews.

📍 When calling, be ready to provide:
• Exact ditch location (include north / south / east / west)
• Your contact information

📬2026 Special Areas Tax and Assessment Notices were mailed on May 15, 2026. Anyone wishing to appeal their assessment must register a complaint by July 21, 2026.

💲Want to pay online? Add Special Areas Board as a payee at your financial institution, then add your 10-digit account number (starting with a “C”), pay your bill and keep a record of your confirmation number.

📞Didn’t receive your 2026 tax notice in the mail? Contact your local District Office to request a copy of your tax notice. Please let our offices know if there has been a change in contact information.
