Community of Hantsport Is a community located in Hants County, Nova Scotia Hantsport is a community located in the western part of Hants County, Nova Scotia.

Hantsport is located just south of the county boundary with Kings County, and sits on the west bank of the Avon River in a tidal estuary. The community is best known for its history of shipbuilding and as the resting place of Victoria Cross recipient William Hall. Hantsport distinguished itself in 2008, becoming the first municipal unit in Nova Scotia to offer a free wireless high speed Internet service for the community.

The Hantsport and Area Historical Society, in partnership with the West Hants Regional Municipality, has been working to honour William Hall’s remarkable legacy in a meaningful way while creating a beautiful piece of public art on the outside wall of the McDade Heritage Centre for the Hantsport community.

The official unveiling is on Wednesday, October 28, at 11:00 am, 50 Main Street, Hantsport, NS.

The mural features a rendering of the Canada Post commemorative stamp honouring William Hall.

This project is a wonderful tribute to William Hall, the first Black person, first Nova Scotian and third Canadian to receive the Victoria Cross, and an opportunity to celebrate his extraordinary place in our history.
