TakeCharge was pleased to join the Fire Prevention Week celebrations with the Town of Harbour Main–Chapel's Cove–Lakeview, recognizing their winning project of the TakeCharge Town Challenge. We were proud to present a $15,000 cheque to support the installation of heat pumps at the local fire hall, helping create a more energy-efficient community while supporting the dedicated firefighters who serve it. Last night our department held another successful Open House for Fire Prevention Week. Thanks to everyone that popped by to say hello or have a chat with our team regarding the dangers of Lithium-Ion Batteries and how to keep yourself safe. Fire Prevention week runs until this coming weekend but the safe practices you will learn can be used for a lifetime.

Special thanks to TakeCharge NL for teaming up to help make it a great success especially their financial assistance towards the mini-split installations in our hall. The funds that would normally be spent on this can now be focused on equipment upgrades. Thank you so much for your support.

🔥Fire Prevention Week 2026 🔥

Fire Prevention Week 2026 runs from October 4th-10th and this years theme is:

⚡ “Charge Into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower™”

Rechargeable devices is part of our everyday lives. Cell phones, laptops, power tools, toys, e-bikes and many other devices rely on lithium-ion batteries.

While these batteries are generally safe when used properly, damaged batteries or improper charging can create a serious fire hazard. This year’s theme is about building simple, safe charging habits every time we plug something in.

We will be hosting our Open House this Thursday October 8th from 6-9PM. Come on out and view the trucks, meet the crew and have some discussions about how you can maximize saftey when handling lithium-ion batteries.

We hope to see you there!

Tonight’s training we started from the basics, Knots….They come in handy for a lot of the SOP’s (standard operating procedures) we use on our equipment. What better way to start our new juniors off in our department and a refresher for our members. Great job by all.

This past weekend, Lieutenant Jennifer Bishop completed ASIST Training at Holyrood Fire Dept.. This is an amazing course to complete and gives participants skills and knowledge to deal with critical mental health situations and emergencies. Thank you Lieutenant Bishop for dedicating your weekend and special thanks to Holyrood Fire Department for hosting.

Today, we remember the firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

We also thank the firefighters across Newfoundland and Labrador who continue to put their lives on the line to protect all of us.

While some of our members were setting up and preparing for our banquet, others were trying their best to the put the ball over the fence. Hats off to the HMCCLV VFD Team for another great year of ball and big thanks to Avondale Volunteer Fire Department for hosting another amazing slow pitch tournament. Games are still ongoing today so get up and get your moose burgers while you can.
