We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our long time renters and friend, Howard Brown.

Howard and Debbie rented from us typically in the spring during opening Lake Trout fishing.

This picture was taken the last year they were able to stay, and Howard caught this monster of a Lake Trout (I think it weighed 10 lbs - it’s been the biggest lake trout I’ve seen pulled out of the lake in many many years!). He was SO tickled he caught it, and like every good fishing adventure, there was a fishing story behind how he caught it and landed it in the boat.

My favourite memory, which probably occurred the same year he caught the trout, was when my youngest son, Levi, was riding his bike, and somehow peddled so hard he missed the turn and came right down the hill (without brakes), went between the cabin and the oar house, and took a flying dive with his bike right into the lake. All while Howard and Debbie were sitting on the porch. Howard came to the rescue of Levi and retrieved a spitting and sputtering Levi out of the water. Once he made sure Levi was alright, and Debbie had retrieved the bike, he walked Levi over to me, trying so hard not to laugh when telling us all what had happened. Of course, after Levi walked into the cottage to get dried off, we all burst into laughter and Howard told us exactly how it looked and said “I will never forget his face when he realized what was going to happen.” He was Levi’s special buddy.

Howard, you really will be missed. Until we meet again. Keep those lake trout biting!!

I know I haven’t posted much since May. My apologies. Opening has not been an easy one this year. I have a sick kid, and if that wasn’t enough to deal with, Mother Nature has not been kind. We had a tornado go through the area at the end of June, bringing down some of our biggest trees on the property. So we have been busy cutting, splitting and getting things ready.

Nothing is more refreshing after a hard days work than going out on the lake and trying to catch some fish. And the fishing has been great. Lots of smaller bass,. Small fish are fun to catch but then you get a big tug and the real excitement begins.

My son caught a nice size pike at the beginning of the week, and just last night my dad pulled this 5 lb largemouth out. And they are still in the lake because we let them go so they can grow (and make more!).

Today marks our opening for the summer season. Happy vacationing everyone.

Happy Lake Trout opener. We were up at the crack of dawn for the opening, and had the most stunning sunrise this morning. I have never seen a sunrise more glorious than this. The bird song was deafening, we had wild turkeys calling from the far shore, and son of Justin (Beaver) swam by with the geese (I’ll upload the video of that shortly). I typically grumble being up this early on my day off until summer holidays begin, but this sunrise made it worth it!

Hi everyone. Due to the cold temperatures, we have been unable to get our water system up and running. Normally we are open for May long weekend, but this year we are behind. Sorry for the inconvenience. Hopefully warmer weather is on its way.
