"On this National Acadian Day, Canada proudly celebrates the courage and resilience of the Acadian people.

The Tintamarre gives voice to that spirit: the sound of a resolute people who have endured great historical trials and who proclaim loud and clear that they are still very much alive.

Despite persecution and exile, l’Acadie has preserved its identity, language, culture and unique perspective on the world. It has successfully rebuilt dynamic, forward-looking communities. Today, Acadian vitality shines through its artists, the richness of its literature and the warm hospitality for which it is renowned.

Acadians have made immense contributions to our country. Whether by defending the French language in minority communities, contributing to the prosperity of the maritime regions, or passing on Acadian pride to younger generations, they are helping to build a modern, pluralistic society that welcomes newcomers and is capable of confidently meeting the challenges of tomorrow.

On behalf of all Canadians, I wish everyone a joyful National Acadian Day!" - Governor General Louise Arbour

Come see the latest exhibit on loan from Kings Landing, New Brunswick, at the Harvey Heritage Visitor Centre!

Before the 1830s, Agricultural Societies began springing up across New Brunswick to share seeds, improve livestock, and foster friendly community competition through regional fairs. By 1864, Fredericton began hosting a Provincial Exhibition.

The artefacts in this exhibit highlight the traditions of these early competitions — representing actual entries from the 1878 Provincial Exhibition Prize List, including hand-woven baskets, intricate beadwork, and heirloom textiles.

Notice anything different?

The Harvey Heritage Visitor Centre has a lovely new (and much-needed) upgrade to our sign thanks to the efforts of some of our board members.

A huge thank you to Sheryl Bartlett, Liz MacLean, Aaron Rasenberg, and Meg Doughty for bringing this all together. It looks great!

What do you think of our new look?

New to the Harvey Heritage Visitor Centre are some very old artefacts on special loan from Kings Landing!

Come see how medicine was practiced over a century ago! There’s a spirit burner used for sterilizing equipment, a first aid kit filled with turn-of-the-century remedies, along with 19th-century surgical instruments and Mrs. Winslow’s Soothing Syrup, a 1849 “cure-all” that secretly packed a dangerous dose of morphine and alcohol.

Come explore these artefacts and the wild history of early medicine at the Harvey Heritage Visitor Centre this week only!
