HUNTING SEASON IS HERE – BE AWARE & SHARE THE OUTDOORS

Fall brings beautiful riding conditions across Ontario, but it also means hunters may be active in areas near or surrounding our trails.

Before heading out:
• Check QuadON for current trail statuses, closures and restrictions.
• Be aware of signs indicating active hunting areas or private property.
• Consider wearing bright Orange or high-visibility clothing so you can be easily seen. Not Red as it blends in.
• Stay on designated trails and avoid creating unnecessary noise or travelling off-trail.
• If you encounter hunters, give them space and be respectful.

Hunting seasons and dates vary across Ontario depending on the species and Wildlife Management Unit, so awareness is important throughout the fall.

Different activities. Shared outdoors. Let’s keep it safe and respectful for everyone.

The Northumberland County Forest is planning to conduct two prescribed burns on Thursday, September 24. These proactive controlled burns help restore and protect the rare ecosystems in the Forest, such as oak savannah, oak woodland, and tallgrass prairie. 🌱🌳

📅 Thursday, September 24 (dependent on environmental conditions)
📍 Location 1 (Rescheduled from spring 2026): Near Beagle Club Trailhead
📍 Location 2 (New location): North of Dunbar Road

⚠️ Temporary trail closures may occur at Beagle Club Trailhead during the active burn. Please check the Northumberland County Forest page for closure notices before visiting.

Smoke may be visible in the surrounding area during operations.

ℹ️ Why do we do prescribed burns?
These carefully managed ground fires reduce excess vegetation and help control invasive plants, while supporting the growth of native species adapted to fire. Prescribed burns also help reduce fuel loads and lower wildfire risk.

Trail Tip Tuesday: Wildlife Awareness

Wildlife can appear on the trail when you least expect it.

Stay alert, scan the trail ahead and give wildlife plenty of space if you encounter it. Slow down and allow the animal time to move away on its own rather than approaching or trying to pass too closely.

Remember, we're sharing the outdoors with Ontario's wildlife. Being aware of your surroundings helps protect both riders and the animals we encounter along the way.
