ATV Safety Week: Protect Your Head
You only get one head—protect it.
Wearing a helmet isn’t just a recommendation… it’s one of the most important safety decisions you make every time you ride.
A properly fitted helmet can significantly reduce the risk of serious head injury—giving you the protection you need when it matters most.
👉 Before every ride, make sure your helmet:
• Fits snug and secure
• Is in good condition
• Is comfortable for longer rides
• Is DOT approved
👉 That DOT label matters.
It means your helmet meets tested safety standards designed to protect you on impact.
And the most important rule of all:
👉 Wear it. Every ride. No exceptions.
Because ATV safety isn’t just about rules—
it’s about making sure every ride ends the way it should.
With you getting home safe.

🐾 Friendly Reminder to Keep Dogs Leashed 🐾

Hi everyone! Just a quick reminder for all dog walkers to keep dogs on leash while using our local trails and green spaces. It helps keep everyone safe and healthy—for pets, people, and wildlife.

🌿 Why it matters:

🐕 Disease Risk (Distemper & Rabies)
Wildlife like raccoons, skunks, and foxes can carry distemper or rabies. Keeping dogs leashed helps prevent dangerous encounters.

🕷️ Ticks & Poison Ivy
Off-trail exploring increases exposure to ticks and poison ivy, which can affect both dogs and their humans.

🦌 Protecting Wildlife
Leashed dogs are less likely to chase or stress wildlife, especially during nesting and breeding seasons.

🐶 Respect for Other Dogs & People
Not all dogs (or people) are comfortable with off-leash interactions. Leashing helps avoid unwanted encounters and keeps everyone at ease.

✅ Simple steps:

Keep dogs on leash
Stay on marked trails
Keep vaccinations up to date
Pick up after your dog

Thanks for helping keep our trails safe, respectful, and enjoyable for everyone! 🌲🐾

Invasive Species Action Day Day – Buckthorn Pull

Join us on Thursday, May 21 from 10 - 12 at Seymour Conservation Area for our first invasive species removal event of the season! We’ll be targeting buckthorn, a highly aggressive invasive shrub that crowds out native plants and disrupts local ecosystems.

This hands-on stewardship day is a great way to get outside, learn more about local habitat restoration, and make a real impact on biodiversity in our community.

What to bring:

Gloves (if you have them)
Sturdy footwear
Water bottle
Weather-appropriate clothing

We’ll provide guidance, tools, and plenty of buckthorn to pull!

Let’s work together to protect and restore our natural spaces

The planned prescribed burn in the Northumberland County Forest has been postponed due to environmental conditions that do not support safe and effective implementation.

The County will continue to monitor conditions and look to proceed with the burn in the fall, pending suitable weather conditions.

Prescribed burns are an important tool used to help maintain and restore local ecosystems and support forest health.
