❗️Public Notice❗️

Parks Canada wishes to inform visitors to the Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve that work will be carried out on certain emergency shelters during the autumn of 2026.

Grosse Île au Marteau: The emergency shelter located in the southeastern part of the island will be relocated near its current site. This new location, which is less vulnerable to coastal erosion, will ensure the long-term viability of the new structure while maintaining a strategic and safe position.

Île à Bouleaux du Large: The emergency shelter located in the northern part of the island will be demolished due to its deteriorated condition. Plans regarding the potential construction of a new emergency shelter in the western sector are currently being considered.

Further updates will be issued in the coming months to provide information on the progress of the work and upcoming projects.

In recent days, we have been visited in the Mingan Islands by a whale that is iconic to the St. Lawrence: the beluga! We know that the presence of a beluga in the area is rare and attracts a great deal of attention; however, please observe the following rules and recommendations to ensure the safety of our visitor:
- Choose to observe from the shore;
- Maintain the mandatory minimum distance of 100 meters;
- If the animal approaches, reduce your speed to 5 knots and maintain your course;
- Do not attempt to touch, attract the attention of, or feed the animal.

If you spot the animal, please call the Quebec Marine Mammal Emergency Network immediately at 1-877-722-5346.
Taking photos and videos of the animal—while keeping your distance—can also help in monitoring the situation.
