The Evergreens Foundation Social Housing team was pleased to have our housing advisor Kelsey Radford from the Housing Operations branch of Assisted Living and Social Services attend our annual staff conference.

It's important for our team to remember we are part of the bigger picture of a very large ministry and it's nice to have our housing advisor here to share updates from the government and hear the concerns we have on the front line.

When a wildfire forces an evacuation, the people least able to leave on their own need a plan long before the evacuation order comes.

Today at the Emergency Social Services- NE/NC Fall Conference in Drayton Valley, our team spoke to a room full of Emergency Social Services professionals:Shyam Sekhar Menon,
Director of Portfolio Management; Ornesto Tassoni, Lodge Administrator; and Madonna Popwell, Director of Client Services.

Drawing on three wildfire evacuations in three years, they shared how we evacuate and care for vulnerable people through every stage of an emergency, and what ESS teams can do to support people who can't self-evacuate.

Update: Willow Grove Residences

Today, Hinton Fire Rescue was called to Willow Grove Residences in response to an incident in one of our modular suites. We're pleased to share that everyone is safe.

The incident was isolated to a single unit, with only minor damage, and no other suites were affected. Thanks to the rapid response of emergency crews, the situation was quickly resolved.

We extend our sincere thanks to Hinton Fire Rescue and local police for their swift and professional response, and to our residents and neighbours for their patience and support.

Honoured to share that The Evergreens Foundation has received a 2026 Minister's Seniors Service Award! 🏆

Today, on Seniors' Day, we were recognized at Government House in Edmonton alongside Albertans and organizations who make a real difference in the lives of older adults across our province.

Thank you to Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta and to the Honourable Nathan Neudorf, Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services, for hosting this meaningful celebration and for championing the people who serve Alberta's seniors.

A special thank you to our MLA, the Honourable Martin Long, MLA for West Yellowhead and Minister of Infrastructure, for joining us today. Your continued support for seniors and communities across West Yellowhead means a great deal to our team and the residents we serve.

This award is a testament to our preparedness and the way our people respond when it matters most. In times of emergency, like the wildfires that have threatened our region, our teams have planned ahead, acted quickly and kept residents safe, cared for and informed, often while their own homes and families were at risk. Behind every safe evacuation and every resident welcomed back home is a team that refused to let our seniors face a crisis alone.

Congratulations to all of this year's recipients. We're proud to stand among you.

Today, The Evergreens Foundation recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. 🧡

We honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities.

Reconciliation is not limited to one day. It is an ongoing journey that asks us to continue listening, learning, building understanding, and strengthening relationships with Indigenous Peoples and communities.

Today, and throughout the year, we reflect on the past while recognizing the importance of continuing to move forward together with respect, compassion, and understanding.

Grandparents and Elders are storytellers, teachers, knowledge keepers, role models, and some of our greatest sources of love and wisdom. Through the stories they share, the traditions they carry, and the lessons they pass along, they help shape families and communities for generations to come.

On Grandparents Day, we honour and celebrate the many grandparents, great-grandparents, and Elders who are part of The Evergreens Foundation family.
