Campfires are permitted when the daily Fire Weather Index is Low (blue), Moderate (green), or High (yellow).

Campfires are banned when the Fire Weather Index is Very High (orange) or Extreme (red).

If you are having a campfire, follow these important safety rules:
๐Ÿ”ฅ Check the daily Forest Fire Hazard Rating before lighting any fire
๐ŸƒAvoid having campfires on windy days
๐ŸŒฒ Choose an open, clear area away from trees, brush, dry grass, and buildings
๐Ÿ•๏ธ Keep campfires on bare soil, gravel, sand, or contained in a screened fire pit
๐Ÿ”ฅโžก๏ธ Keep the campfire small and controllable
Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby at all times
๐Ÿ‘€ Never leave a fire unattended
๐Ÿ’งFully extinguish the fire before leaving it โ€“ soak it, stir the embers, and soak again

Your yard is your first line of defense against wildland fires. ๐Ÿƒ

? A mowed lawn is a fire-resistant lawn. Grasses shorter than 10 centimetres in height are less likely to burn intensely and may slow the spread of fire.

๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐Ÿš’ HFD Training Recap ๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐Ÿš’

Over the past few weeks, Holyrood Fire Department crews have been completing hands-on training focused on water supply operations, SCBA skills, and communications.

Crews completed portable and float pump operations, focusing on establishing water supply from ponds and static water sources. Training included setup, flow management, and maintaining a reliable water supply for rural fire response.

Recruits and members also completed SCBA training, covering donning and doffing procedures, cleaning, maintenance, and equipment familiarization, with some members getting their first hands-on experience.

Last night, crews were in the apparatus bay working together on communication skills, search techniques, and SCBA operations in low/no visibility conditions. Firefighters used radio communication and partner guidance to move through the space to locate tools and a simulated victim.

Great work by all members over the past few weeks!
