I had a wonderful time today at the annual South River Days family fun day! This year was especially meaningful as we celebrated the 60th anniversary of the incorporation of the Town of South River. It was great to see so many familiar faces, connect with residents, and meet some new friends along the way. Thank you to the many volunteers who worked so hard to make this event such a success, and thank you to the Town of South River for the kind invitation to bring greetings on behalf of the District of Harbour Main. Congratulations to South River on this special milestone!

I’ve just returned from two days in Labrador, and I’m feeling grateful that I had the opportunity to visit Rigolet, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and Sheshatshiu. The conversations I had and the people I met helped me to better understand the region’s unique policing needs and the importance of continued collaboration with our law enforcement partners to build safer communities.

My sincere thanks to Assistant Commissioner Cahill for the invitation and for arranging visits to the RCMP detachments in these communities. I also want to thank Minister Evans and MHA Russell for their time, guidance, and support during the trip. Their local knowledge, experience, and strong ties to these communities made this visit especially insightful and rewarding.

The Seniors’ Social Inclusion Initiative supports seniors organizations across Newfoundland and Labrador to organize and promote activities and programs that support social inclusion, healthy aging, mental wellness, and overall well-being.

Grants are available in the amount of $1,000 each.

Eligible applicants must:

Be based in Newfoundland and Labrador and funding must be used for projects in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Be a not-for-profit organization that serves seniors and older adults (applications from individuals will not be considered).
If incorporated, be in good standing with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s registry of companies.

Our government is investing $2000 through the Cultural Events Fund to support festivals, celebrations, and cultural projects in our district.

These events bring people together, celebrate our unique heritage, support artists and community organizations, and help showcase the culture that makes Newfoundland and Labrador so special.

I'm proud to see this funding supporting the events and traditions that are so important to residents throughout the District of Harbour Main.
